If the tramsom is that deteriorated............just saying. I know I'm no fun but whats the point of replacing a deteriorated transom with new to rotten stringers? It's just gonna go that way.
Its fun to me, because I never done it before. I bought the boat in 2012 and have been researching transom work since a friend (my mechanic) worked on the engine and told me about the transom was soaked And that the stringers are likely too. I just feel I would rather tackle the obvious problem of the engine flying off as oppose to stepping through the floor. After I finish the transom I will do stringer later after I research more about foam when i never even fiberglass before.
Here is another picture. What I did today for about 1.5 hours.How deep do I need to dog in the corners? Main this worx 14in chainsaw is killing this wood. Great invesyment.
Your gonna need to remove all wood till you hit glass. Yup it is fun doing something new and challenging. No wood patterns should be left when your finished, just smooth glass.
The newly revealed glass becomes your new bond for the transom install. Think of it like leaving paint on the glass and glassing over the paint. The bond is to the paint, not the glass, it will pull apart.
@kcassells
I have an earlier picture of the bilge where there is a crack in the floor. I keep thinking my deck was sealed, then i removed the cap yesterday and seen a .5 inch hole going under the deck. So yes i know in will have to get under there. Hell like the room with that cap off would love to have a full transom on here.
I will keep at it with the chainsaw and chisel. The port Side I can see the glass on the side so I got that ok. The drain hole, do I need to remove that too? Got about 1 inch of wood before I get to it.
LOl ...the turtle wins the race. But try not to fall asleep. Cool side is I just got a bunch of goodies and prepping wood for the new gastank. Got 4 days off so here I goes again.
Hit some glass now I see how far I need to go. I though the wood was smoothing out but it was the chainsaw making the wet wood smooth. I saw different layers until I saw glass then I was tired. Picture is looking down from outside out the boat.
Set it on some level 2x4's off the ground and cover it up with a tarp.
Wog nessd some material quotes for ...whats it called? oh yea poly.....not EEEEEEEEEEEEEpoxy.
We need the Wizard of WOG! Woodonglass
I made up my mind about doing the stringers after looking at this video on shipshape tv. They were saying about laying out your grid for your under deck layout. I would like to add 2 things when putting it back together, live well and a ice box. I keep saying if just fix the transom and wait, I probably keep putting it off. Like you said do it while you got it out.
Where and how should I cut? Can you let me know and how?
