Re: 1979 StarCraft with a small area of transom rot
Just got back from a trip on the bay of Green Bay in near Door County Wisconsin. This was the trip that was rapidly approaching that necessitated the need for the transom to be worked on right away. The transom worked out very well. Very solid and no leaks.
A whole bunch of other little things happened though. I usually take the boat on small lakes or familiar water. In this case I was not so familiar and I bounced on some rocks at no wake speed. One very small ding in the prop. Then my brother in law broke a small plastic screw on my portable side ladder. I'll have to get another screw. By the way, what is a good ladder system for a 16 foot starcraft like mine? The one I have is portable and hangs over either side. But its a pain to get in the boat even with the dumb thing.
My brother in law also insisted that we watch the Independence Day Fireworks out on the water. I hated that because I don't like bouncing on waves in the dark when I can hardly see anything. I ain't doing that again. Dumb idea.
And the first day I launched the boat on this trip, the starter wouldn't engage. Battery was charged. I got out the emergency rope. Turned the engine over a couple of times. Then I turned the starter again and it started right up. Could it have been stuck on something? I don't know. Weird.
And the part that I am rolling my eyes over the most is when I started to get under way after some people were doing a little fishing and the anchor was still out. Three people (including myself) did not remember to bring it in. In the end the rope managed to get undone from the cleat I had tied it to in the front. To be fair, I NEVER use an anchor, except for now because some of my family has taken an interest in fishing. So I and no one else was accustomed to pulling it in. Although I remembered the other 3 or 4 times beforehand on that trip. It must have been getting too hot. The weather has been extremely hot here for a while and we were toasted. Despite that I assure you, we are not mindless idiots. Perhaps just a moment of pure stupidity. Fortunately I did recover both the rope and anchor, haha.
In any event, I have learned a lot from this trip and I will do 100 things different on the next one. Transom worked great and thanks to all of you for your help over all this time. It is greatly appreciated.
