Yah, we've been dealing with snow/cold then basically torrential, flood stage rains so far this spring (pouring outside again right now). Finally had a couple of nice day in the mix for 2013!

Memorial Day Weekend this SN will be headed to the U.P. for pike/walleye. Between now and then I'd be surprised if I can sneak out again, we'll see...

Nice catch there Jas! Love that you showed the kids how great an unexpected day out with dad can be. Glad you got to finally enjoy the fruits of your labor as well! I love your snap in carpet and will be copying it in my glasser build. The ability to remove on muddy launches hadn't occurred to me so that is yet another bonus.

Yeah, I'd like to order a fried walleye po-boy with Mayo and french fries on the side to go please...

Thanks,

P.S. I'd like to upsize that order... (and throw in some of that ice cream for desert).

Jas,

Fresh fish pics? What the...? Am I on the right thread? (Double checks thread)

Yup! Right place! Excellent job dude! Glad to see you & the fam rock'in the docks, and shak'in the lakes! That boat flat out catches fish! Can't blame the fish for wanting to take a ride on that cool looking boat!

Enjoy!

BTW - Detroit River is on fire right now

You got that right B-cast!

Looking like a real fishing machine Jas. as far as your trolling dilema goes, I would opt for swapping out the 15 hp for the electric in lieu of a trolling plate. My experience with trolling plates is that they are difficult to control your speed and not very fuel efficient. Trolling bags or drift socks are also a good option.

Jas,.........

I was thinking about the bags today and think they would work fine, Even with some debris coming down,..

I'd think about 2 of them at least one size bigger than they say fit's a 16 footer,...

You could also use them as drift socks if you want to, Even on the Islander,...

I really think they would be a valuable tool,....

And I don't want to sound like a salesman because I'm not, But the Amish Outfitters stuff is the best I have seen or used,...

Back in 06' or so when I ordered they only took phone orders, The company owner took all the info over the phone along with credit card info,...........Very old school, And a great dude,......He is also a guide on Lake Erie,.....

Nowadays I think you can order online,.....They have some other cool stuff as well,...........

Also I agree with the dislike for trolling plates,....

I think they take away your ability to control the boat,........

Yah guys, I'm with ya, skip the plate. Next time I'm out I'll pull off the Minn Kota and lock on the 15hp to see how that runs.

I'll try the bags too, I need to grab a pair anyway for the Islander to fish the big water.

Thanks for chipping in fellas:joyous:

How about a budget friendly tiller handle extension for you kicker??

Find yourself a stout whiffle ball bat,.......In the garage or a yardsale or at the dollar store,...

Then eyeball the length you'll need and where the bat will fit over the tiller handle,..

Then cut off the fat end and slide it over the handle,......

Good enough for throttle control and steering while trolling,...

I've seen some Canadian guides use that method,.....So I can't claim it is original,.......

Looks like a good time, I wish we lived near that kind of water (and I knew how to catch something).

About the 10%, I'm not so sure. Muddy bank, solo, I would have dropped more than a piece of carpet.

And by the way, the batter on that fish looks pretty good. If you don't mind passing that along I sure could us it.

Jas,

What a spectacular success your fishing trip was. All due to the effort put into the planning and execution of the lean, mean, fishing-machine (and no doubt a bit of skill from the youngsters and you). Now let's get on with the lake boat hey? :D

Start saving your pennies, gonna be some Minkota Powerdrive and Terrovas coming up for sale with 1st gen Ipilots on em. Best of both worlds, awesome drift jiggin, with or with out a drift sock to keep ya straight, and kick butt trolling capabilities all controllable from anywhere in the boat, quick detach plaet it for the non fishing excursions and you will never go back to the tiller game. On the days ya need to troll faster fire up the kicker and fine tune speed with the bow mount and steer with it. Can ya tell I believe it is one of the best fishin tools I have ever got myself. they really are worth it, just gonna have to keep your eyes open for one. Should find a Powerdrive model cheap! Oh ya I have never used my foot pedal with my terrova, keep it on the boat just in case but nadda. so a powerdrive ipilot will be no loss of functionality with no foot pedal.

Those Ipilots are like auto pilot. With a Humminbird and Ipilot you can tell it to follow a contour or hold a spot. Does everything except stick hooks in fish lips.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Hey fellas, thanks for checking in!

-----------------------------------------------

OK, Memorial Weekend report:

Friday: Emergency Landlord duty, rats.

Saturday: We made our way over to Harbor Beach, Lake Huron. The wind was up just a bit and the seas were a bit rough for fishing enjoyment with two youngens. So we did some beach hangout...

Sunday: The morning was pretty cold and a little rough. We started out with 3' rollers. This was the first real test of the SN in bigger water and I must say I was really impressed! The boat hit the waves with an good solid thud. No rattles or shakes, solid, bomber. I didn't have any waves over the bow but lots of spray. With the cold temps and the wind I was sure wishing I had a nice big 22 footer to duck into! All in all I felt real confident in this boat, very happy about that.

The wind/waves started to die down in the early afternoon...

The lake wasn't giving her bounty though.

We trolled our way back, the sun was out, nice and easy, and the boys totally punched out. Here's Ryan enjoying the new carpet...

Ethan enjoying the warm sun, completely passed out, in lala land...

Pretty stinking funny!

They napped for another half hour while I took my time messing with the boat rigging in the lot...

I love those boys but I really wanted to take a nap too!

Sunday evening was absolutely beautiful!

And wouldn't ya know it, as soon as I put the camera down one of the Jet Diver rods went off and the good Lord gave us one...

Fresh baked salmon, herbs, butter, along with some Alfredo pasta last night. The best! Mrs. Outside was way happy and asked when I was going to bring home some more? I love that question!:thumb:

Monday: We did some boat fun with family which was awesome:becky:

So, only one fish for the weekend. But a whole bunch of solid father/sons time, loved every minute of it!

Those pics are great! My friend's son falls asleep on his boat every single time no matter how rough it is.
