The cutlass bearing is in the strut, where the shaft rides through. If its worn it can cause issues. Glad it's all set and the prop and shaft were in good shape.

Boats on the hard, so progress continues. FYI since this photo we added two additional stands.

Use Black Friday to grab cheap side chairs and pillows. They dont match the couch, but look good and are very lightweight which helps out a lot for when you need to get into the bilge.

Also working on the stateroom door. As with the head door the center sections were laminate and needed to be wood. I had some luan I bought years and years ago and decided to give it a shot. So far it is almost ready on one side, and will be flipped and the back side done.

wow that's luan? It would be sweet if the 1/4'' stuff they sell at Lowes/Home Depot for floor underlayment was nice enough to finish like that

1 out of 2 sheets of luan at 84Lumber here is that nice, on 1 side. About 1 in 5 pretty good 2 sides. But it takes some digging to find nice 2 sided sheets.

The blue & the orange big box stores here sell patchwork quilts (patches) of potato chip shaped luan or an underlayment that has gridlines in both dimensions to help w/ nailing/stapling it down, so not real good for finish work, stain & varnish...

Electric head and holding tank are in. Toilets mounted on a mahogany platform due to the height difference. It's fresh water fed and will get two vent lines in and out. The head is close, just needs the laminate cut for the walls and some additional trim.

I just picked up the same Jabsco head for my Silverton and was thinking of making a riser for my head too. Howd you bolt your riser to the floor?I can think of a few different ways but it seems the best would be to screw up and in from under the floor.

I have no idea where this luan came from. I got it from a friend for $5 a sheet. It's tough finding both sides to be presentable. Hopefully I can make it work from the two sheets I have.

The riser is through bolted in the center, then the head through bolted onto the riser. It's very firm in place and the right height.

Some more.

Redid the filler panel in the salon.

Also put the bungs into the head trim. One step to finalizing the work in there.

Spectacular work Mustang!!!

I will be following the thread closely, as I have alot of the same work to perform on my new boat (and old F-32 Trojan) My old girl needs some fiberglass work to be performed prior to all the pretty stuff. I picked mine knowing that I was going to need to repair the Trojan wet bridge deck.

I couldnt pass the deal on the F-32

Thanks, the doors work is slow and time consuming with waiting for it to dry. But I will post up as I work.

Thatguy, the F32 is a great choice. Very similar layout to my 34. Yours should be full of nice wood in the cabin already!

Beautiful work, as usual, 25thmustang! Seeing the work progressing on yours make me wish my boat were closer. I've really got to find storage closer to home.

Thanks. This winter the boat is only 15 minutes from home, verse over 45 last year. Makes stopping in a lot easier.

I'm a fan if taking of lot of photos when working. Even of the most boring stuff. Also helps if/when the day comes to sell. You can show the work you put into it and potential buyers usually appreciate that.

Boring update.

Sanded with a palm sander and 220. Still needs more poly to make it perfectly smooth. A little nerve racking power sanding into your finished wood, but its the only way to keep getting it flat and smooth.

image-7.jpg

Then wiped it clean.

image-8.jpg

Then loaded another layer of ploy on top of the sanded finish.

image-14.jpg

This piece has a lot of really nice gold color popping through. Hard to imagine that terrible looking luan can stain and look like it does.

The best part is with all the amenities of home, you don't have to leave. Heat, air, fridge, head, shower, tv... It's like a small apartment!
