Haha maybe i can buy those pre built storage compartments and have the best of both worlds...fill in some expanding foam around it? I'm almost done tearing it all out but I have yet to see a bilge pump..did the 1400 come with one?

... probably why the vegetation that was growing in it was so lush.:lol:


What're you going to do with this boat SF? Fishing, cruising, skiing?

If it was mine I'd deck over that bow seating and make strorage below.

Finish building my engine stand but not sure if I have enough angle...I sat on the top and It didn't collapse! Engine only weighs like 150 I'm told and I'm way more than that

I don't see any stringers in this Capri 1400? Is that normal? Is it because it is such a small boat the floor just gives all the structure?

I am at a loss with this new development but i guess it just means less work? or maybe I'm just blind?

Looks like you may have a balsa core boat, hull lined with balsa wood under that f'glass... if that stuff is wet it needs to be removed. You can also remove it if it's dry and make a stringer boat out of it.

Go ahead and demo those rotten seat bases too.

First off good to see some one else with a 1400! I got one last summer and didn't see a lot of projects for them on line. So i am at the same stage in my restoration you are. I guess my question to the forum;is it really nessasary to do anything other than replace the foam the re-do the foor boards at this point? I love working on the boat but would rather spend time riding around in it than working on it.

I'm not sure if it is against forum rules but I am the original Poster. I am starting work on the boat again. It has finally cooled off here and work is back underway. I am in the design stage getting ready to start glassing. I got the engine off and put a new impeller and check the lower end. Everything is solid and free spinning.

The transom when drilled in a few places was dry! so just new stringers, floors and I'm getting more ambitious with the design of seating and such. See below.





I was at my local boat store and about fell over at the prices of gauges and such. Any recommendations on aftermarket gauges? Need a new steering wheel as well.

I am determined to have this baby in the water for spring.

also OSB or plywood 1/2" sheets? Stringers were plywood but would it make sense to use solid wood for more strength?

Welcome Back!!!
It's fine to open your own Thread again. You ARE the OP. Do NOT use OSB it's bad stuff and not for Marine use. Plywood when encapsulated in Resin and Glass will actually be stronger than dimensional lumber so I'd recommend going back with it for your stringers.

Be sure to drill/test the bottom 1/3 in the center (very important). Mine was completely dry and rot free everywhere else.
