In this thread I got advice on a tricky reinstall of my gearcase, then I found the remains of part of the lower driveshaft housing seal stuck up in the receiving splines:
dubs283 advised removing the rest of the old seal with a 2-jaw puller, but I was not able to find a 2-jaw puller of a size that I could get up in there. I did find this tool though- it seems to be ideal for removing the seal. The fact that it's called a seal puller was a big clue
.
Is this the right tool for this particular job? What's the best way to knock the new seal in without damaging the seal or scratching up the inside of the driveshaft housing? I know this is pretty easy stuff for you guys, and it's not like it's my first impeller replacment- I replaced the impeller on my OB motor on my other boat a couple times. But this "simple" impeller replacement has become more difficult than I thought it would be and I'm second-guessing myself- don't want to screw up the outdrive before I even get this boat I just bought on the water...
