I have been working on a complete restoration of an astroglass fish and ski that was given to me for a couple of weeks. Been scouring these forums and boy have they helped. So far I have removed the floor, cap, rotted transom, and all the rotted wood in the bilge area. I have cut, glued, and fiberglassed the rear support pieces in and was about to tab the transom in. I then realized some of the core wood of the strakes? Was rotten. Standing on them from the inside of the boat they have no give and the wood is less than 1/4” thick. I’m wondering if the fiberglass they are covered with is the actual support and the core was was just a mold. Here are some pictures for reference. There are 8 strakes that run from the transom to about 8’ forward. Then there are 4 that run up towards the bow.
