Does any body know if you can change the points to solid state ignition on this boat. I have heard you can't because a signal is sent to mess up the dwell in the points to more smoothly change from forward to reverse which doesn't work all that well anyway Any help would be appreciated first timer

Stick with points, far more reliable then cheesey Pertronix systems. And keep spare points/condenser in waterproof container on the boat.

I went with Pertronix several years ago and never looked back. Fast start every time.

I looked at changing my distributor in my 350 chev because I had problems finding a set of points but after doing some home work I found them finally.

I'm sticking with the old points distributor as the boat runs absolutely fine and why waste your money :D
