Your axle is connected to a sub frame which is now welded to the main frame. I would still use u-bolts. I've been welding for decades on all sorts of vehicles and this is just my suggestion.

Understood. Moving on...

Hope to get the service cable for the lights run tomorrow night. The old one was held on the frame with electrical tape and we are going to use something a little more sturdy and long lasting. We have all LED lights to put on as well.

The bunks will be carpeted today and we will hopefully get them on tomorrow night as well as the winch, bowsaver, hitch and safety chains. Goal is to have the boat back on the trailer saturday and have everything back inside. At that point we move on to the engine.

Doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of interest here but I will keep going for those people who want to see it through.

Tuesday night's work session turned out to be more of a BS session as my brother and I talked more about future plans than getting the lighting wire run, however we did get that mostly done. Still some soldering to do on the connections and tucking things away and making it look pretty. My Dad has been working on the bunks and I think they are both finished now. Still looks like the boat's going back on the trailer Saturday.

The machine shop guys are picking up the engine this week, and wanted us to pull the oil pan off for them. Again it was a painful experience. Not in that everything looked worn or packed with sludge, but in the fact that everything is in pristine condition. I have never seen the inside of a SBC look this clean before. I snapped a picture of the crack to show everyone why we are indeed pulling the engine.

I will try to get some pictures of our progress on Saturday

Why are you sending the old engine to the machine shop with a cracked block? OR did they just want the pan?

That's definitely a crack, lol. You may not be seeing "much interest" mainly because this thread is in the wrong section. We have a complete forum of "Boat Restorations" that has several current projects and pages and pages of previously finished ones. You might PM a Moderator and ask them to move your thread over to that area, because that's where those guys check first.

It's also a great place to read up on things other folks have done. You never know, there may be a completed project that's exactly what you're planning to do. Helps to get ideas, tips, etc. Good luck and keep us posted!

What is the capacity on that trailer? Looks a little undersized for a 20ft boat and doesn't appear to have any brakes
Those Bayliners may have been 20' but that last 1 1/2' feet are pretty much just swim step with a little bit of fiberglass. Its much closer to an 18' boat.

I agree. If you measured from the transom you would lose a solid foot to 1 1/2 feet. Bayliner's way of building a lesser boat and marketing it in the 20' range. However, that swim deck was one of the main reasons we bought it. It is going to be a family boat and having that swim deck will be great compared to the bayliners that only have the swim step. It does have enough room for the family at this point in time and cruised very well with a boat full.

The machine shop has our new block there already. The owners have a racing team with which they drag race and run circle track cars, so we should be getting a good solid *STOCK* engine. We will be swapping over the heads, cam, crank, connecting rods, intake and carb, so it should be similar in power to the 5.0. We are getting a marine engine rebuild kit with the proper gaskets and all of that as well as bronze freeze plugs. We told them not to rush as boating season is pretty well over here so no hurry to get the thing done.

Well the trailer was finished enough to set the boat back on it saturday. I managed to finish most of the wiring for the lights. We are going to wait until the engine is back in before we mount the fenders. That will allow us to get correct spacing between the fender and the tire when the boat is at full weight. All in all the family is pleased with how it turned out, and I will try to get some pictures taken soon to post for everyone. Next on the list is some work on the outdrive (gimble bearing, bellows) and some hole patching on the transom.

I have heard that 3m 5200 works really well on filling holes with no issues, But im wondering if maybe we should actually try and do some fiberglassing instead. Any thoughts or suggestions?
