Recently bought a 1990 Bayliner with a Force 50 hp outboard. The outboard started and ran well although the former owner said he had it turned as it had idle problems in the past. First time we had it out worked flawlessly we could start and stop at will on the lake, it was perfect. I had a bildge pump switch added at a local shop as there was none before only two clips to clip to the battery. The battery was left unhooked at one terminal so that had to be rehooked to start. Since then the motor will run fine after getting in gear but you need to start it several times before you can get in gear. It does not idle and will stall in neutral before we can get it in gear and give it gas. After several restarts it will idle and you can put it in gear and as long as you do not turn it off will run the gas out of the tank. It did one time shut down after getting started and in gear after going to full thottle. The former owner only had the boat out one time last year and maybe only once this season before we got it.
