After closely inspecting my crankshaft, i've discovered a few issues. First, there is a lot of rust in the bottom where the female splines are and also a small circular ring right beneath the seal housing...where the two seals meet. I've been told OMC changed that design starting in '92 and put a wear sleeve on the crank wear the seal housing rides. I put my lower unit shaft to see if the splines had good engagement. It holds, but my mechanic looked at it and said he wouldn't trust it. Is there any way to repair the splines in the crankshaft? Could i put a wear sleeve on it? I can't use a '92 or newer crank because mine has the square end as opposed to a keyway. Thanks for your input.
