I'd walk from the Maxum, and continue your search. IMO, overpriced, it could become a headache in no time, and there could be other hidden problems. Not worth $6000.
I can say to you that my 2005 bayliner 175 is reliable. I've had nothing but good times with it, and nothing has gone wrong at all. But, it is a starter boat, and once you have 5 people or more on board it can get crowded. Light for towing too.
$8,700 isn't a bad price if it's in great shape and if nothing's wrong. But again, try going lower on the price if you can. I got mine for about $9000 with some accessories a year ago. Needed a nice cleaning due to the marine growth(what a surprise for when we got it out of the water for the first time

), and a new prop, but in good shape otherwise.
