Either of the two methods you described will work. I would opt for aluminum closed rivets, since the hull is also aluminum. Stainless bolts would work also, with 5200 to seal they should be watertight.

Glad to see you are back at it:)

thanks HA,

since the rivets have pulled through the stringer in a few spots i might use the bolt, washer and nut to pull the stringer back down to the hull and then the closed end rivets on the others that are leaking (once i get to that point)......

got the rest of the floor up and back at pulling foam out..... heres is a picture to show where i am at right now..

its actually going better than i thought it would... not easier just better LOL :D

ok ,

why does it seem like everytime a project is going well ...... something always happens to cost more money ?? not with the project itself but with a tool or something else breaking and costing more because you have to replace it...

my shop vac has died and now i have to go get another one so i can keep working... another $114.00 gone that wont go into the boat :(

thank you murphy's law....

The rule of thumb is, it'll cost twice as much, take twice as long, and come out looking half as good as you thought :p

EZ, boy isnt that the truth LOL,

another quick question for you guys that used the swim noodles for flotation... how many did you need/use for your boats ?

my boat is 17ft 3 in and i think 85 in beam.... the foam that is on the sides of the boat i left in as it was dry as a bone so i only need the noodles for under the deck.. im thinking 25 noodles should do the trick but would like opinions on this. :)

thanks

Yeah, it depends on the cubic ft of area between the deck and the hull, but I'm thinking 50 to 75 is more like it.

thanks u2 ;)

my deck to hull at deepest point is about 12in then slopes up to the boat sides so i will have to do some measuring i think..... the noodles will have to be cut into peices to fit between all the supports and stringers in this boat that should be fun :) .....

maybe i will have to get my wife out there with me, let her do the cutting and i put them in place...... she will love me for that :)

well got most of the foam out, now only 3 compartments left to go (thank god ) then its cleaning time to get ready for the new rivets and then gluvit all the rivets and seams i can get to..... will post pics once the foam is out and hse is clean....

Because you have so many small compartments to fill, it might be easier to use those sheets from Lowes/Home Depot

I went with the blue constructions foam 1" thick.Boat is 15.5' with i think 72" beam. This is how I laid down the foam. Just used hot glue to stick them together.

Re: 1993 sea nymph 175sc sidewinder leak repair

piece,

thanks for the pics.... that looks like a good way to do it i will be getting my foam soon....

ok as far as the boat goes i have almost all the leaky rivets drilled out, but i was suprised to see alot of them are/were already 1/4 solid rivets... the boat has been repaired once before as there are small square aluminum pieces riveted and sealed on the inside of the hull in a couple of places....
and they looked to have worked well (none of them leaked) so i might do the rest of the rivets the same way using a small 2" x 2" piece of aluminum and some 3M 5200 around the new rivets i will put in... (closed end 1/4" pop rivets)

now i am in the process of cleaning the inside of the boat to get it ready for the gluvit that is soon to be painted on the rivets and seams.

will post some pics once i get it riveted and gluvited (SP) ;) also i have decided to only use a few rivets/screws on the deck while putting everything back in the boat so if i do have any other leakers i can easily get at them...

thanks

Glad to see that Emoney and Piece came in for the rescue.:D Seriously tho whatever you do just be sure you fill as many voids as possible but leave a path for water to drain out. Laying your flotation on top of the ribs will take care of this.

Piece really has an artistic side doesn't he. Thats a nice looking foam job but there are alot of voids in those pics.

Never herd of anyone here complain about stainless bolts or rivits below the water line but I think its a good question to raise.

ok gents and ladies, a quick question about gluvit.......

after a short stay in the hospital for pneumonia im back to feeling like working on the boat.

what color is gluvit supposed to be ? after its mixed and ready to use that is ? i just opened and mixed mine up and its a clear brownish color, well i used it and now we will see how it sets up..... hoping everything is good to go.. after/if the gluvit sets up then its time to start putting this beast back together.

again thanks

Re: 1993 sea nymph 175sc sidewinder leak repair

MichaelP made a good point when it came to the the voids in the foam... although it may look like there is a lot there truly isn't. The only gaps are the ribbing at the top of the foam which is less than an inch from the floor and touching in most places and the center channel about 5 inch wide for drainage to bilge. Also the sizes of the foam just progressively gets smaller which forms the steps so from the center point to the far edge of the top layer of foam is solid to the hull.. Hope that helps... glad ur feeling better and back at it!

Re: 1993 sea nymph 175sc sidewinder leak repair

hello again,

i have another quick question for you all :) .... this boat had an aluminum floor with small peices of wood where the seats go (was rotted) .... as i was taking the old aluminum flooring out some of it got bent up and i was just wondering if you thought it would be better to use the original aluminum flooring or just use a good plywood ? i will try and post pics later today of the aluminum pieces.... thanks in advance for any and all responses...

ok here is a picture of the aluminum flooring.... would you guys keep it and reuse it or would you go with plywood for the floor ? any help and reasons why to go either way is greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: 1993 sea nymph 175sc sidewinder leak repair

well i talked with my dad today about the flooring and we decided it would be best/easiest to use plywood and keep the layout as open as can be for the time being..... i will be adding a small casting deck in the rear of the boat (my daughter insists on this ) (possibley removable) and at that point i will re add the 2nd livewell to the boat under that deck along with a 12 gallon portable gas tank.... if all goes well it should make for a nice multi species fishing boat and should be able to use it for the buddy bass tourneys my dad and i sometimes fish together ;)

well looks like i might have found a motor for this beast.... a 1984 90hp johnson that has a new stator, fuel pump, and lower unit for
$1800.00 or trade straight up for my little old 15 ft bass boat, motor and trailer...... i have to take my boat up and have the dealer check it out and i have to check the motor but sounds good right now ;)
