Spent the last couple days making the transom as well as a couple modifications. I do not like the Idea of taking something and waterproofing it with fiberglass then screwing a screw into it, makes absolutly no sense to me. So I drilled all my screw holes bought stainless machine screws and ground the heads square then epoxied them into the holes. I then layered some fiberglass around the heads to keep them from turning.

I also drilled my motor bolt holes prior to fiberglassing my transom and glassed PVC into my bolt holes thus totally sealing the transom.

Finally I glued the transom in place with loctite PL premium adhesive. before I did all this I layed a piece of glass across the entire hull transom extending about 2 inches above. I stopped my resin just prior to the top of the transom and let it set. Once the PL adhesive is dry I will fold the glass over the top of the transom and resin in place.

Yah, I know, I have some filling to do. I made it the way bayliner or a PO had made it and once in place I did not like the 2x4 at the bottom but it was in place and I will work with it. just a good bunch of peanut butter.

Some of you might wonder how things are coming. well, 2/3 or more of the stringers are in and laminated. it is a slow process due to the curvature of the hull but I am making steady progress. Hope to have all the stringers done by monday afternoon but we will see. The Mrs. just had surgery and I am having to tend to her while working on the boat so that also slows me down but the Mrs is more important than the boat anyhow.

Have the majority of the stringers done now. the others are above the deck and will be done once the deck is in place

Yah, it's nice to work from home and at your own leasure. This is the slowest month of the year for regular work so all my time is being devoted to the boat. Still seems to be moving slow to me though.

Been a busy couple of days. Have the foam mostly poured...ran out so waiting on more. as you can see I used a piece of plywood covered with plastic and 200 lbs of sand to keep the foam within the confines of the space I wanted it. that made it so that there was very little shaping. I also have the seat blocks made and glassed together and a majority of the deck cut already. getting close to the end...thank god!

That has got to be the most neat and tidy foam install I've seen yet. Very nice work.

Thanks Ez. I came up with the idea to do it that way when I was pulling out the old. noticed that all the places that there was plastic the foam pulled out easily. figured it would be perfect to repour the foam. I did have to do a littel minor shaving just to bring everything down to level but it was minor shaving

Ok, so the final stringers and the bow seat/console area is now done and glassed in altought I do need to run a strip of glass along the edge.

And I have got the decking down and resinated. Will start tabbing it and layering it tomorrow sometime.

so as far as the bow seat/console area...is that how it was originally? did you use your old for templates? what angle are those kickpanels sitting at? you did a nice job. it looks much simpler seeing how its laid out compared to mine which still has carpet on it. Very nice

Yes, that is how it was origionally. was a bit difficult to do some of it. I basically had no old pieces for a template all was mulch. I really couldn't tell you what the angle is on the kick panels. I marked the origional tabbing and just matched my angle to that. The angle is not that important position is more important since the helm from the top half has to fit over them.

Thank you jetter. My parents have looked at it and figure it is better than factory. in some cases I would have to agree. They think I should start doing this for some extra income. buy and restore boats for sale. Not quite sure about that aspect yet but will see.

Incase any of you are wondering as I had, this project looks like it will take 15 to 20 gallons of resin to complete. This is a 18 foot boat. Just 1 layer of glass over the decking took a little over 1.25 gallons of resin.
