I've got a 98 carbureted (sp?) VMax 200. It is not pumping oil from the main reservoir. It is only using the small emergency reservoir. I can use the override switch to fill the emergency reservoir, so I'm assuming the hose is not plugged. What else would it be and how to fix?

check the oil level in the remote tank.
do you have the yamaha digital tach or aftermarket stuff.
if the switch in the remote tank is bad,or tank level is low, the center bar on the digital tach lights and automatic transfer is prohibited.
do some forum searching on precision blend.
your engine doesnt use the trim sender for any oil related issues.

Re: 1998 VMax 200 not pumping oil

Are you calling the large, main tank the remote tank? Is there a way to check the switch? What does it even look like? I see wires going into the tank but I can't disconnect them. How do yo do that?

The small tank is full now. But I keep having to refill it manually with the override switch. Then it continues to take oil from the small tank instead.

I don't have a digital tach. It is just as it came original.

Thanks for the dialog!

Re: 1998 VMax 200 not pumping oil

the remote tank is just that, seperate, remote lonly down in the hull.
the engine tank is just that its on the engine.
factory isnt specific at all.
from the factory your motor was hiding in a crate with only a fuel line, prop attaching hardware and mounting bolts to keep it company.
boats ARE NOT like cars.
but on to the oil issue.
with the remote tank at least half full dissconect the 4 pin connector, use a digital voltmeter and check for continuity between the black and black red wires at the remotote tank switch;SWB.
if no continuity replace the switch, if you have continuity plug it back in.
this is why its nuts to have the worlds best engine and the cheapest aftermarket rigging avalible.
but many many bass an skiff boats did it.
now we are gonna try another test, take off the hood, remove the tie strap on the engine tank water trap, that little vinyl tube.
use needle nose pliers to work the tube off by pushing it,DO NOT try to pull it off.
drain the oil down past the low level mark a few inches, replace the trap.
turn the key on you should have an audible alarm and the pump?should turn on for 180 seconds. if the pump runs and the tank does not refill in 180 seconds replace the filter at the remote tank.
the correct 6y5 digital guage would have told you the information on SWB.
open the aft deck hatch and listen near the remote tank to hear the pump.
do some serious forum searching on precision blend and read how the system works.
