keeping twice as much fuel on board than you plan on using is a good way of handling it ,but if it is stored around the water the damp air it breathes in and out as temperature changes will cause condensate to collect in the mostly empty tank and contaminate the fuel.
Have you thought about getting a smaller tank? I run a 6 gal tank and fish anywhere from 2 to 5 times a week as weather allows running about the same miles as you on a trip. I end up burning more fuel in my truck just to get to the boat ramp than I do in the boat.
Being retired is not a bad thing as long as you can do what you want when you want.

I think I'm going to try to go with a smaller tank. My boat is a Boston Whaler and the tank is under the seat. It's the Dauntless 15. It takes a while to empty a 15 gallon tank with that Yamaha 4 stroke. May be able to utilize some of that space for storage and put in a smaller tank. Sure something to think about.

Mostly kidding about the fixed income. I get to go as much as I want, it's just that I have other hobbies that keep me busy. Like you said, I need to get my priorities right. I built me a 30' x 50' shop when I retired and filled it with wood working equipment. Now everyone has a project for me. I still love retirement though.
