Well, this sucks... For those of you that think you have a bad day at the lake...

We were at a different lake today, but have tied up a couple down from Gabe before. Gabe is a nice guy who made his money in insurance for the larger transport ships. Guess he's going to be talking to his insurco. It's a nice boat with all the soft features and a nice jetski off the hydraulic swim platform.

For those of you familiar with the lake, it is the party cove that has been featured on the reality police shows and girls gone wild. A real drunk, nude fest at night.... It is not uncommon to have 75 boats tied up and then 50 or so of the smaller day boats tied up across from them. The bigger ones show up and anchor down for the weekend. Just glad this happened before he anchored down. I wonder how much of the fuel burnt up and not in the water.

I'm a Behavioral Analyst. Let's just say I'm going to reserve comment on this one. ;)

Another thing .... what makes that boat a '$2M boat'? I've seen boats that size on Lake Barkley for 1/4 what he claims that one is worth.

Just my observations and opinion.

It said the fuel was contained in the tanks and none went in the water, and like LIK, I have seen a lot better boats on the Hollow that would be worth a lot more than that one and they won't even come close to 2M.

Wow, That is a shame, TG no one was hurt. That looks like a super sleek boat for a 55 footer.

Actual boat cost $500,000
800 gallons of diesel $1,500,000

depends on what the finishes are on the interior. you can buy a $100,000 rv, or a $1,000,000 rv. same with boats. and as we all know boats are more expensive.

Well, I have been on the boat and can tell you that it's worth the $2MM between the radar system, in motion Sat TV, the HD televisions, lighting, furnishings and the likes, he had a lot invested in that one. It was about a 5 month build when he got it. There are many of the 50' boats out there that cost $500 to $1MM and they don't really comopare. I think boats are like houses and motorhomes; you can't tell by the shell how much it's worth, especisally one that is burnt down.

As for the Insurance Co, let's be realistic, not many people that stupid to intentionally set fire to the boat while underway.

No idea yet on the cause as the investigation has just begun.

I have links for those but don't think they are appropriate for iboats. :D You could always just order the Girls Gone Wild video or turn on Tru TV for their Lake cops shows. ;)

I don't know this guy, so my comment is not directed at him.

... I remember in the late 80's when the market was readjusting itself.

There were boats all over Lake Texoma that all of a sudden started blowing up, burning, and or sinking. Seemed like every couple of days another one, would have another unexplainable accident.

Most often they were almost new, and almost always, the were really really expensive.

Insurance value, way over what the market was paying at the time.

I remember that time too. It seemed like every weekend, on Sunday afternoon, a boat would sink or catch fire. I guess we will know for sure once the investigation is done. I don't know Gabe well either but have good friends who do. They all say it is not him as this was his pride and joy. The story goes that they left the marina, about 2 mi from the spot, they were on cruise at about 20MPH the whole way out. He had a couple other non relitives on the boat and one of them smelled smoke just about the time the arrived at the cove.

You never know for sure and maybe the investigation will tell us more.

I don't know for sure but "rumor" has it, that he lowered the swim platform, dropped the anchor and got off the boat in the water. Ski or not, I don't know for sure but I have never seen him with the boat and not the ski.
