2000 60hp Tilt & Trim issue

I have a 60hp Johnson (J60PLSSE) that is having an issue with the TnT. When I try to raise the motor with either the switch on the motor or the throttle controls, it will only raise it about half of what it normally goes. It goes into the tilt part of the TnT but it doesn't go high enough for the trailer lock.

I can hear the relay clicking on and off when I hit the switch on and off. When the tilt stops on the way up, the relay clicks off well short of where it should. Is there some adjustment that can be made to control when it goes on or off at its limits?

Also when I lower the motor, it goes all the way to the bottom out position without the relay clicking off. If I keep holding the switch on, the tilt motor continues to run. Is it suppose to stop automatically at the bottom most position as well?

Any ideas on what may be causing this behavior?

thanks
Bill

Bill, I believe there is an 'upper limit' switch that is probably stopping you from going up further. Since you said the pump cuts out, and stops trying to push rather than pushing and not getting anywhere. My manual shows a limit switch that can be adjusted, it is located on the upper shaft that the engine tilts on. 'Push the upper adjustment tab upward to increase the maximum amount of tilt allowed'. Sorry I can't try mine out right now, but if you can't find it let me know and I'll find mine later.

Rude,

Thanks, that was the problem. I was cleaning grease off that area yesterday and must have moved the limit switch cam. I didn't realize what it was for and didn't see the switch either.
