2005 Johnson 15HP 4 Stroke will not accelerate. Could it be the prop? thrust bearing?
Hi guys, I have an issue with my motor. Outboard motor runs great but I can only go about 1 mile an hour. If I give it any gas, it does not move forward, it acts like it is in neutral. Engine does not overheat, water pump spits out water fine, and I see water coming out of the prop area. Out of the water, with engine off in neutral, the prop moves freely, when in forward or reverse, prop moves with some resistance. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in the prop area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that prop must have worked at one point.... if it is e/w rubber hub they can be refitted but compare the cost... of rehubbing as well as prop condition

bring the prop to a dealer and buy an identical one if the boat characteristics are the same and had the proper pitch

if you buy new keep the old one as a spare. Some folks have been known drill the prop and insert a screw each side to lock-in the rubber hub in place .. see aroun min. 14:00
