I have a new to me 1994 225 HP Oceanrunner with a powerhead rebuild. I have run the boat offshore several with no problems. Last time out it ran a little hot so we limped back to the dock at 1000 RPM so the horn would not go off. Since I did not know the history of the waterpump, I replaced it Saturday. Put the muffs on and it is stil running hot. Pee stream is pretty weak as it was before. I checked the water inlets and see no obstructions. Any help on what I could do to check for debris or obstructions that is restricting my water flow? Can I 'backflush' the motor.

Your help is appreciated.

Did you put in the entire waterpump kit or just an impellor. The base plate and cup can get grooves in them that effecy the output of the impellor. Change the thermostats and bypass valves, and flush with "Saltaway" I think its called.

Any ideas guys on how to backflush if that is possible? Any other water passage areas to check?

Yes, salt water....Engine is 20 hours into a powerhead rebuild that was done by Gator Creek Marine.

Then, with everthing else you have done, I would have to send you back to Walker's post and use Saltaway and flush the system out. Or at least ask the guys who did the rebuild if they did it.

If you have the correct water pressure and the horn still goes off lets make sure its really overheating. It could be a false signal and the Salt Away may cure it as suggested. Or it could be a fuel restriction warning.

Before we go chasing a ghost, lets check it to make sure that is indeed overheating or not.

THe motor is overheating for sure. You can only hold your hand on the head for a second or so.
