I need to replace my water pump on a new to me 1994 Oceanrunner. I have replaced a couple water pumps in other outboards but I am hoping someone will give me the 'Cliff Notes' version on how to replace it on this motor. I want to tackle it today and would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Gary

Remove lower unit bolts (including under trim tab)
Disconnect shift linkage
Drop lower
Remove pump ***'y
Replace pump ***'y (a little dish soap helps)
Clean lower unit mating surfaces
Guide water tube and shaft when assembling
Curse and swear and finally get shift rod reattached
Test
Good luck
PS - Having the OMC manual should be step one

Angus:
Do I need to put the shifter in any particular gear before I disconnect the linkage and drop the lower unit?

It may be easier to put the shifter into forward gear before disconnecting. Also, unless your a weight lifter, get a buddy to help (hold) re-install the unit.

Disconnect the shift rod first, before the lower unit bolts.

There are two different factory water pump kits for that motor, depending on the shaft length. Use your complete model number when ordering parts. 25-30" shafts use the #5001595 water pump kit. Don't get them mixed up, they look almost identical.
