The prop seal on this motor is located INSIDE of a bearing assembly....to get to it I believe that I have to remove a brass piece that holds the seal in.....
There is (what looks like) a large screw driver slot on that brass piece.
Am I correct that this brass piece screws out to expose the seal....?
The only way to buy this seal is to take it out and measure it and buy one at a seal house....
It's not listed in tthe parts list itself.....
RACEONE told me that I could take it out and measure it to replace it....
Raceone...could you please tell me exactly how to get to the seal?....
Am I right about the screw driver slots....
Actually I believe that a thin strong piece of metal will work better than a screwdriver......the slot is quite large.
Many thanks

OK...thanks.....the lower unit is still on the engine....but will remove it today.....
My attempt to replace the shift rod seal didnt fix the problem....I didnt replace the drive shaft seal.....but I'll replace that also this time....
So I thought that while I was in there (since it's a job)....that I would replace the prop seal too....cause I dont know when it was replaced last time.
I was working from memory when I described the assembly to you.
I don't remember a loose washer ....but I'll look at it again today...
Thanks

I took off the Lower unit and looked down into it to see the shift rod bearing and there was a lot of grease accumulated around the rod....there was none around the drive shaft seal....or any grease around the prop shaft.
I turned the lower unit over and looked down into it to see the other end of the shift rod bushing.
I know I have to tap it to remove it.
It was not down in the shaft rod bushing casting hole all the way....

1.)When I remove it can I use it again, if it looks OK.....or should I get a new one?
I have another new o-ring and washer for it.
2.) I was careful to remove the drive shaft bushing with a seal puller.
There is a gouge in the wall of the cast hole for the drive shaft seal. I dont believe I did it ...I was very careful.
It doesnt go all the way down and I think I can drive the drive shaft seal down past it.

I'd appreciate any thoughts and advice before I put this all together?

I bought a bicycle pump to pressure test the unit per my service manual.
