4.5 seahorse engine problem

I have a 4.5 johnson outboard seahorse which seems to run good for about an hour and then stalls when you try to run at high speed. It will re-start and run in neutral but once you engage forward and throtle up it stalls again and again. After awhile it does not want to run at lower speeds either. Could it be overheating and shutting down? The fuel filter is not cloggeg and the spark plugs are fresh. Im hoping it is something simple someone knows about?

have you check for spark when it does this.

I have a 4.5 johnson outboard seahorse ....has good spark, clean fuel filter, clean carb! Starts but then stalls out. Will not stay running??????? I do not know much about this engine!!!! Is it possible the fuel pump is bad if there is one on the engine or could it be theres a problems with a fuel pump inside the tank itself, if there is one there????
Dazzed and confused but exhuasted from pulling the rip cord!!!

If you pump the primer bulb will it stay running?

Ive tried pumping the bulb but it seems to have no effect but I have noticed it is losing pressure I think but very slightly. ........

I was wrong if I pump the bulb every 30 sec or so it will stay running....? Any ideas?????

I had a similar symptom on my '65 40 HP seahorse.
Well, the reason for my problem was stupid and likely different to yours but if
it is the same, then that would be great for you.
I had never used the motor before
and the gas tank had a little screw on the gas cap to let air in.
I had it on tight and so the tank started getting pumped to a vacuum
until the fuel pump couldn't handle it and so it would stall.
Keep the screw loose to let the air in.
