If you have a big block, you need a 4bbl carb. They aren't just for racing.

Don’t do it! There are no quick easy fixes for a gas hungry big block, it is what it is. Big, powerful and thirsty! Yes late model auto engines are getting some kind of reasonable gas mileage by running smaller air valves, but they have computer monitoring and EFI to help keep everything in order.

You can tune your engine to run on a 2 bbl holley of around 500 cfm but IMO getting it setup correctly and jetted right is gunna cost you more than any fuel cost saving you will see in the next 500 hours of running....... and a big drop in power above 3,000 rpm.

Because automotive engines don't operate like marine engines do.
When was the last time you seen a 454 automotive engine run at full load, in low gear, going up a steep hill at 4500 rpm all day long.

A four barrel can actually get better economy, especially if it is a spread bore type like a Q-jet, or an edelbrock/weber. The spread bore carbs have smaller primary openings than a two barrel, and if it is a vacum operated secondary, it only opens up at full throttle or heavy loads. Make sure you have yours jetted properly, and if it is a mechanical secondary you might want to switch to a vacum type.

The Merc./Weber/Edlebrock/ Carter Clones are only spread-bore in the 625cfm Carb......

The 750cfm is a standard Square-bore..........

Not that it Matters,...... Boats Burn Massive Quantities of Fuel,.....Regardless..... :)
