Yes, I know I need to do the conversion upgrade.
The other night, I was doing some maintenance, and at one point I heard a bang from the stator area, and sure enough, I threw a magnet. I heard it get chewed up, then spit out before I could turn off the engine. Still starts, and I'm pretty sure it's still charging, but I do have a slight vibration now. Which would be from the now out of balance stator. I have a couple of questions;
My daughter's birthday party is tomorrow, and the plan was to take all the screaming 10-11 year olds tubing in the area past my canal (3 houses away). What will be worst case scenario with the out of balance stator?
As far as the conversion, couldn't I just get a 68 (or bigger) marine 3 wire amp, the bracket, and the pulley separately and do it that way? Seems the 'kits' are way over-priced because they are neatly packaged kits.
Is there anything special about doing the conversion? Seems pretty straight-forward from what I've read.
