The motor you're looking at probably has electric shift or hydro-electric shift. Either one has a solenoid that pushes something inside the lower unit that controls the clutch dog. The solenoids are no longer available new, although I saw a couple of used ones on ebay recently.
Basically, if you don't know how it works, you don't want to buy the motor. Actually, you probably don't want it either way. They can be a pain. BTW, I own one!:redface:
