Re: '68 Holiday-V 120 Mercruiser I/O

Glad you got her out. Looks like fun was had. I'm sure none of those issues will be a big deal to take of.

Yes A lot of fun was had by all, My father in law had the honors as it was his boat/storage

Took the S/S line to have a new one made, it turns out it had a hairline crack on the flange hence the leak.
As for the diaphragm in the fuel pump that had seen better days  to stop the leak at the bolt i used a rubber washer then flat washer sandwiching them tight leak is now stopped. My fuel pump has no ID on it at all  will need to replace it some time soon. not repair kit for it

I may have a fuel pump you can have..My lobe on the camshaft was bad and not hitting the lever to pump fuel, had to go electric.
If I can find her she's yours.
I'll send you a PM tomorow and let you know.

Well we had a great day on on Cass Lake, the wife shouted to me did you take this off and forget to put it back on. I'm what are you talking about???

The throttle lever was on the drivers seat  well this was the only hiccup today, 30min and we were boating..

The "temp" needle never moved from just above the yellow into the green :D

Glad it was a small oversight, the boat looks great in the water:)

How is the motor running, sounds like she did well, how fast?

How are we supposed to ski barefoot with all these signs in the way? :D

The shorter intake hose did the trick :D as for the throttle 43 years for the retaining screw to come loose not bad lets hope it stays put for another 43 years

The motor seams to be running fine running smooth at 3200rpm with a speed of 25mph
(4 people + gear and about 3/4' of chop)
Speed was with GPS and the paddle wheel was +/- 1-1.5mph off

I'll run a compression test after I get back on the 27th (Off playing with 2011 Jeeps for work)

Scott

I went through about 6 gal of fuel in 4 hours 1.5 gph is this about right

Fantastic!! That is a great looking boat!
I searched for the old fuel pump, but starting to think I tossed it, or it has leggs and has hidden itself someplace with the spiders and other things in my garage.
Did you have any fuel issues this outing??

I placed a rubber grommet and a flat washer then bolted them together no leaks yet... I have a sierra pump on order. Thank for looking anyway :)

Does anyone know what size thread the oil drain plug/nut is (1/2 by 20)
As I bought a quick drain hose 42" long that you poke through the Transom plug hole for quick oil changes...

Well I ran a compression test on all 4 cylinders I started with 80psi on all 4  Now with running her with some "Honey oil" for 2 trips 8-9 hours variance of RPM's max 3500

I now have 105psi on all 4 :D up to 75% power.

Should i change the oil after this weekend of boating

Re: '68 Holiday-V 120 Mercruiser I/O

I had a great day out on the lake everything went well, pulling the wife on an old "Tube" funny as hell watching her buck back and forth.
Tied up on the sand bar with a bunch of friends, I noticed a small chunk torn off one of the prop blades. I'm quite sure that I did not hit anything or drag on the sandy bottom...

Replaced it when I got home with this Quick Silver 15x21p still in it's box from back in the 70's

Same thing happened to us in my buddy's Chieftain. Got back to the ramp and when we pulled it out we noticed like HALF a blade was missing!? We had no recollection of feeling a hit of any kind. And we were surprised there was no vibration.

This new Prop is insane same Dia/Pitch but the blades have a larger surface area
before 27mph (GPS) at 3500RPM and 4 peeps and gear
After 28mph (GPS) at 3200RPM and 5 peeps and gear

Can these ALu props be repaired ?
