The dealer lists two different rectifiers. One 6 amp and one 12 amp.

The 12 is for tilt/trim models.

My motor didnt come w t/t.

The dealer gave me the 12 amp anyway since I have a t/t.

After installing it my motor started idling rough after a couple outtings and now has no fire.

A mobile marine mechanic that was at the ramp tested the motor and told me I need a new power pack. He said my stator was working good, triggers good, not the ground etc.

He recommend a cdi pack.

My question is could the rectfier have caused the pack to fail?

I don't see how it could.

EDIT: You should be able to use the 12A rectifier on a 6A system, but not the other way around. Anyhoo, the rectifier for both 6A and 12A have been updated to the same one, part number 583408. In other words. it is for 12A, AND 6A. Is that what he gave you?

As FR alluded to, the rectifier is part of the engine's charging system-not part of the ignition system. That tech checked the right ignition componets-the power pack was probably just due to be replaced.

That's what I was thinking.

Unfortunately it really depends on which guy I get at the parts counter. A couple of them are great, some of them don't even try.

I just didn't want to install another pack and cook it because I didn't think it through.

Fortunatly all the parts that are failing are one's that haven't been replaced and probably need to be.

Thanks so much for you replies.

There is one more weird thing- my tach is reading way off. Putting it's reading around 7,000. I have it on 6 poles. Any thoughts?

Do you have the voltage regulator on your motor? That might make the tach erratic if it is connected to the wrong wire. But 7000? I don't know.

Have you got what looks like melted wax leaking from coils under flywheel? A bad rectifier can cause a stator to over heat and fail and how long was the other one bad?//

No regulator, nothing melted or fried, so could be bad brand new Faria tach.

Don't know. Gonna pick up new pack. Double check tach wire on bus.

Thanks guys.
