Nice spread ya got around the new joint Troy!

Only got 2 words for ya though: DEER FENCE :cold: :blue:

They'll decimate a garden quick.. And keep coming back to try the rest of the flora when they finish the garden veggies....

Oh, yea, ask around, ground hogs & wood chucks are often a problem too. They'll sample every 1/2 grown tomato/cucumber/etc etc etc they can reach... And leave 'em laying where they drop them....

If you catch up w/ that punk Punxsutawney Phil, put a cap in his hide, location of your choice. :D

Ebko updates pending, yeah!

ok, getting the sense I spend too much time talking about anything but the boat....so......

Back on topic.....

Technically not the boat...but I needed to take the rolls of glass out of the boat and thought the rack needed resized....so scaled it down abit...

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

What a weekend...

Got my network cable pulled through the attic...Admrial is happy she doesn't have a cable running through the kitchen now...ya I know, could have went wireless.....

Decided to pull the boat out and wash the grime off her....

Got the inside cleaned out...
DSCF0432.jpg

Washed the outside as best as I could...looks a little better..
DSCF0433.jpg

Closer inspection shows it was tough getting her clean...
DSCF0434.jpg

This got me thinking, I have to sand anyway, why not sand instead of cleaning?

So started sanding...and the hamster starting running around in my head...
Hey why not flip her over to make the sanding easier?

OK...where to flip...and where to store? Admiral suggested a spot out behind the house...I thought that could work..but I got the garage, why not try and get it flipped in there????

Obstacles for having the hull flipped in the garage....
1. 8' ceiling height...boat is 7' wide...not much room for error...and the hoist would need more than a foot of that 8'....tricky...
2. Driveway into the garage slopes...if I build a set of gantry type cranes like I had before, the center of gravity would not be optimal on the bow end...
3. Even if I was able to flip it in the driveway, how would i get it back into the garage?

I really want to be able to have her in the garage....so talked myself into it....

Got some supplies...
DSCF0431.jpg

Started on the base...
DSCF0435.jpg

Sure hope those casters hold up!...still alot of work to go...

Little video..

Have an idea on how to make the cranes...looking for some input from you all...

See anything wrong with making the uphill one slanted to make the upright vertical to gravity? I was thinking I could use 2x4 straps to keep the angle strong...the down hill one will be level....just don't want the top one toppling over...

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Got the casters mount tonght..then started on the TGS2.0

That's the Trooper82 Gantry System 2.0 :)

Got the T's made...
DSCF0436.jpg

A second angle so you can see how I put the parts together...that is a top and bottom together for comparison...
DSCF0437.jpg

Here is how I plan on putting the header span in...I think it will hold just fine..
DSCF0438.jpg

I plan on using taller angles in the bottom of the inverted T ....not so sure yet what I'll do with the T to header bracing...welcoming any and all input.....

Good to see you move so fast.. It was hard for this old man to just keep up with my eyes..

Not much help for you on the header bracing but I know you will come up with something..

When you get her flipped and start sanding, make sure you do the marks alot thing.. After I thought I did a good job sanding I
found out how many little places I missed.. The shine brings them all to the surface..

3m makes a cool black power that is rubbed on and will stay until its sanded away.. I'm going to try it on the cap on mine..

Looking forward to the flip..:D

You are a man of much progress...if I could keep up with your speed I would be done yesterday...way to go, Troop!
The TGS2.0 looks like it will serve you well...

On the flip...Put down some 2x6's so you're not pushing the cart on stone. Could angle them so they're level with the driveway.

Just a thought anyways...

BTW: Glad to see you working on it again!

Decker...don't we all wish we could move that fast! Slwed it down some tonight..if the camera worked...haven't checked it out yet...

And thanks for the tip on the 3m powder..will have it check it out...

Not a lot of boat progress lately....but it is starting to come around...

Thanks Brian...I'm glad to get at boat work myself...and will for sure lay something under the wheels while on the gravel....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Got the first frame done....
DSCF0439.jpg

Made a slight modification so that the header was supported with the 2x8 and the 2x6 sides....and you can sort of see the angle I would be dealing with on the bow end...
DSCF0440.jpg

Even better representation of the angle...this is about 5' ofstring on the makeshift plumb bob....
DSCF0441.jpg

Color coded the pieces so I can store it indoors when not in use...

Wish I knew how to slow these down....went from 10 secs to 30 thinking that would help....I see no difference....EDIT: Figured it out....will update tomorrow...with a little slower version...

WOW there's that guy Flashing across my screen again..:bolt:

Nice work and color coded too.. You do have a slight angle on the driveway..

From where I sit I don't think you will have a problem with the flip..

Are you going to leave the cap on or pull it off before the flip??

Looks great, just watch the gantry as you start to load them w/ the weight of the hull, and only lift it as little as needed to get her flipped. Slow & steady, you'll get her over.

Another fine gantry system. TGS2.0 looks about ready for service....

Have a good weekend....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Hey Troop,
Just a thought, I don't see any 45? braces in the top corners...now don't get me wrong, I am not doubting your engineering, but maybe as the boat is flipping, it might load the gantries in such a way as to want to sway them at the most inopportune time...
My thought is to just add some outriggers to the exterior of the gantries...kind of like this...

I kinda like the fast vids . It makes my slow computer seem like it works faster !:D
+ 1 on the lateral bracing Troop . You could tie it to the fence post but I don,t think the Admiral would think to kindly ..:)

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Well...I thought I might work on the bracing tonight...get things ready for pulling the motor this weekend...

and here is what I came up with...
DSCF0442.jpg

still lots of daylight left...only 6 nuts and 2 bolts holding the motor down.....what the heck...let's pull it tonight :)

Note the Admiral giving a double thumbs up behind my back there in the last frame...she sure puts up with alot when it comes to me!

Got the crane pulled apart and waiting for the flip...that is gonna be the weekend for sure...
DSCF0443.jpg

EDIT:I should mention that the crane did not even make a single creak or squeak....rock solid too!
