Latex paint ? I would,nt think you would have to wait a week to do the stripe . The painters at work are doing a 2 tone color on the walls . They paint the top . Then the next day tape and do the bottom . Maybe the cold temps are making it cure slower .. Try not to use a to aggressive blue tape and don,t wait to long to pull it ..

The name on the tape suggested it would let loose easily...maybe I am pushing it down too hard...JB had a good suggestion of a dry brush...or was that GT?

Prolly both of us...that jbc is one smart, informed cookie, he is...;)
I used this technique many times, years ago doing sets for commercials, etc...
I agree with S.P., you shouldn't have to wait so long for the paint to cure { unless of course the delay is strictly therapeutic and necessary for the recuperation of tired, sore body parts...} ...we used to force dry it with a heat gun when we were under the pressure of the director to get the set done for the next take...
We would lay the tape down over the latex paint after it had gone through what we called a cooling and heating cycle...
Latex paint gets cold to the touch while it is drying, then starts to warm up to room temp as it finishes drying...when we heated it up to force it, we would get it warm to the touch, then let it cool to room temp, then mask whatever striping, with the tape, "back paint" the masking tape with the background color, force dry it, paint the top color, and as soon as it started to turn "cool", remove the masking tape by pulling back almost flat against itself at a slight angle...
Folks who saw the process couldn't believe how much the stripe looked like it was put on like a vinyl applique, instead of actually being painted on...

Gus, I finally understood what you were saying...and I think SP or JB said it also...paint the back paint..makes perfect sense ...now that I am done :facepalm:

Well almost done...peeling the tape on my dark color pulled paper up everywhere I used it, but one...so I have alot of touching up to do...but I got the most of it done..spent this evening trying to clean up and make sense of where everything is at..I feel like I have moved everything about 20 times already...

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Just realized the part about the lower color not matching perfectly...
I know I am late to the party, again...but...
Here is another of those painting tips from my bygone days...
You will need a spray bottle with some plain water in it and the new color and a good 3"-4" brush { preferably something like a "Purdy"}
Where the old color meets the new, paint the new color, and use the brush in a criss-cross, X- motion to help blend the new color into the old...use a little water sprayed on very lightly with the spray bottle to moisten the paint enough to keep blending it into the old color, using the X-motions, until it practically disappears into the old paint...with a bit of practice, you won't be able to tell where the colors meet, and it will fool the eye into believing they are the same...

Thanks Deck, but even if I live to be a million, I will never be the fountain of information that WOG is...that guy just has a knack for getting to the nitty gritty of life's mysteries...
