brief history: i wanted to attach a ski/tube rope so went to the ski forum and asked about different types of set ups. they were very helpful. one guy told me i could use my tie down rings with a self centering harness.

so i go outside to check them out and i thought they were tight but when i pulled on them the transom flexed and it had me a little worried. so when i had more free time i went out and put a wrench on them and tightened them up. well now they dont flex anymore but it looks like there isa .25" crack next to the port side ring, it looks like its superficial, maybe just in the paint.

on a boat that has not been taken good care of( ive only had it about a month)my questions are-

on a boat that hasnt been taken good care of and has absolutley no clear coat left. is there any thing i should do to strengthen the transom?

can i get some rings with longer threads and run them through some wood for extra support?

should i look for a more suitable place to put a ski set up?

should i not intend on skiing on a boat this old that, from the look of it has probably set in the sun most of its life?

sorry for the novel, thanks for any help and advice it would be very appreciated!

Most likely you have rot in the transom (as TD mentioned) at worst. Once you get the transom figured out that boat will be good for skiing, tubing, as well as fishing.

My uncle has a venture bass boat that is maybe a little older then yours. He gave it to his son n law which the son n law left the boat out in the sun as well, if his is any clue to what your's looks like . Now the uncle got the boat back and I believe he regrets letting the son n law have it. Find another hull or try to fix and paint that one up and you will have a good boat hull, heavy but good.

I like the layout of the venture bass boat hull compared to my own challenger bass boat hull, mine doesn't have but one livewell and one storage.

Re: '79 venture bass boat

i can raise up the tilt and practically lay on the lower unit, cant completley cause of hydrofoil, and absolutley no movement anywhere no flex or anything.

thats why i was asking about ring area, looking at it from the inside it doesnt look like any work has been done but where the rings go through dont look as beefy. maybe its an optical illusion.

also the only specs i could find is the dry weight-830#- i thought that was pretty light but i dont know a whole lot about boats, and that the max hp is 115.

do anyone know where i could find more info about the specs?
my specs tag is gone and i dont want to overload it. i did the boatfax thing and hit a dead end as the "power plus products" in greenville, mississippi is out of buisness.

thanks for any help or advice!
