I am replacing the floor in my 83 Bayliner Capri 18ft Bowrider and need to know what I need to use to seal and protect it. Far as resin, fiberglass, and sealer. Which is better mat or cloth? and how much would I need to do the project? Also, which is better to do, put the new floor down with an adhesive or stainless steel screws? Someone please help! Any info is greatly appreciated. I have some type of I guess, sealer down now, it is white which covers the wood, do I need to get rid of it before the new resin and glass goes down? I am not fully replacing all the wood, just the wood that was rotten or soft to hit with a hammer. Most of the seating wood boxes are in pretty good shape. Could I use a rot-protector to protect what I am not replacing?

Kyle38,

If you search this forum you will find the answers you are looking for and more. Carefull of patch jobs. I did a patch on my deck (floor) a couple years ago and am now in the process of re doing the entire deck along with some other cosmetic stuff. Make sure your stringers and transome are good.

Yes you have to grind to good material so the glass will adhere to what you haven't removed. There are alot of products you can use depending on what your doing. I would seal the new decking with resin top bottom and sides. You can use either poly resin or epoxy resin. I won't pretend to be an expert on the differences between them but I think the epoxy is stronger as well as sme other differences and I know it's about twice the cost of poly.

I think some of the guys on here are screwing there decks down with stainless screws and then putting resin over the holes. Others are just applying an adhesive. It's your project do it the way you want. There are alot of smart people on here that have already done what your doing and they are willing to help.

Thanks for the great information, I do believe I will use epoxy resin and will also screw down my deck, just for extra stability!
