Boy , perhaps it's just me, but, I've read here on this forum that folks with mid 80's Johnson's 8hp and 6hp have the same problems. I myself had a spun crank on a 84' 6hp Johnson. Perhaps it was an issue with the way the crank was broached, who knows. Another reason to replace the water pump impeller every few years is to grease the drive shaft/crank junction.<br /><br />Mfasis, if you're lucky and have little or no spline damage, be sure to grease the drive shaft splines upon re-assembly. No grease on the end of the drive shaft, just the splines. The grease helps take the torque and prevents seizing the crank to the shaft.<br /><br />Follow OBJ's good advice and post back to let us know how things went. Good Luck.
