hi rmorgan, when you say step/deck ladder do you mean a swim platform with a swing down step that hangs off the right (starboard) rear of the boat?

Hi, Morgan.

Tell us what engine you have, then put your boat question in the Boats Forum.

Good luck. :)

JB he stated a 125 hp (My guess is Force)
My next suggestion to rmorgan is search this posting for tilt and trim. He probably has
1) Low fluid
2) Bad seal

My Clymer manual suggests 30 wt non-detergent oil.
Start by filling the system and see if that helps at all.

Well I will answer the ladder question here also :)
Try a Bayliner dealer or a boat junkyard.

yes it is a force. i know i have heard alot of bad things about the force motors. anyway. i took it out tonight for the first time after a two week fix of the transom and some reapohstry work. it seems to take for ever to plane out. do you think i need a dif. prop or the hydrofoils? this is my first boat. i aslo have ahummingbird fish finder unknown model # but it has a digital read out and is really hard to see. you have to look up from the bottom to see digital readout. any thoughts?

rmorgan, based on many, many forum comments in the last few years Force motors are either the worst ever made or just need a lot of TLC. Check my post above, I may have a lead on a swim platform with fold up ladder if that's what you need. Some LCD units have adjustments for observation angle, can you post a picture, maybe someone can identify it. Or check,,,

http://www.humminbird.com/home.asp?ID=2

What size prop do you have? Are you trimming it down far enough? Have you tried redistributing your weight on the boat (maybe put the cooler and anchor in the front). I use the hydrofoil on mine and have no problems planing at all. You may lose a couple of MPH, but the way it makes your boat ride is well worth it.

As far as the Humminbird, most of the LCD units have a contrast control. I have the Humminbird LCR 4000 and you can adjust it based on light conditions.

Also, check their website. If you don't have a manual for yours, you can download it in PDF format there.

Finally, as far as the ladder goes, try www.greatlakesskipper.com out of Wisconsin. They have just about anything and everything there and for a decent price.
