85 evinrude vro dosnt charge batt when running

I may have hooked the cables up wrong one. Ive seen other post about something called a RECTIFIER cant seem to locate it on my motor. Is it possably my motor dosnt have 1

Hooking up the battery cables backwards will certainly "pop" one.

You don't say what horsepower.

Follow the yellow wires from that vertical terminal strip and it will lead you to the rectifier. Let us know if it's round or squarish.

the yellow wires lead in to the fly wheel can you just take that off our do i need to like make the position

They go in to the black plastic and in to the flywheel

if the tach dosnt work is that the stator or could that be the RECTIFIER to

Looking at your 1st picture I can't see anything connected to your yellow wire from the stator.

i dont think there is even a RECTIFIER on the motor

it says that the rectifier is # 27
convert

I think #27 is the bolt, look at #43 it should have 3 wires coming out of it that connect to the terminal strip.

i think i solved the mystery 1 pic i found on the web just to the left of the terminal block there some thing that looks like the pic in the book

would the rectifier not being there make the tach not work or are there other issues

Hi Sparky,
Don't mean to hijack your forum, bit I have a similar motor, Johnson, and I have a question. What is the box above the carbuerators? Is it some kind of a tool box? I have seen it on a lot of other similar year/horsepower motors, but I cannot find it in any parts books.
