I really like this tilt trailer design,I believe you could launch this boat in a swim pool if you needed to. Since i only got this 74 Lund yesterday, all thats been done so far is to cleanit up some.Plan on painting-new lights and all the stuff that needs to be done-GREAT project!!!!:)

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Welcome to the Lund world! Looks just like my 1984 S14 DLX except mine has the side console. I have mine sitting on a Gator tilt trailer and yes you will be surpised at where you can get it into and how little water it takes to get it on and off the trailer. I've seriously launched mine in 10" of water and never even got the rear tires wet.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

You are welcome!

Not to scare you off but that 6hp might be a bit underpowered for that hull. When I 1st received mine there was no engine on it so I threw my 9.5hp on it to give it a test spin and to check for any leaks. Cruised allright with just me and 3 gal gas, any more and it would struggle. Then picked up an 18hp for cheap and it did nicely. Now my hull, even though it is the same as yours except with a steering console is rated for a 35hp., which it now has on it. With me alone in the boat it is very light and a little squirrly at high speed and a bit of chop on the water!

That ol 6hp did clean up very well though didn't it! Would make an excellant kicker on that boat.

:)Got the boat off trailer-took a little while-being very careful-didn't want to drop thats for sure.I'll soak all bolts and nuts whith wd-40 and then disassemble so i can sand and paint. repack bearings. I'd like to put some of those new style light kits. Don't know if wally world sells them or not but i'll find them. Don't know if i can afford them or not.

Well daddy always told me " poor folks got poor ways " and right now after taken all my allowance my wife would give. But i do agree but it'll have to wait, cause it'll probably take a little bit to get it cleaned up and paint the triler and stuff. It will be an enjoyable hobbie project.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

coinman, you did good! Thanks for all the pictures, looks like a very sweet little setup. That hull will last you until you out grow it!

The hull and interior looks as if it needs nothing. Trailer should clean up nicely too!

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Very nice! One tip: forget the WD-40. It's lousy as a penetrating oil. Kroil, PB Blaster, or Liquid Wrench would be better choices. So would a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone.

Use it as penetrating oil. There are some tests that show it works better than commercial penetrating oil.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Coinman. Not to rain on your parade. Great Boat Buy. It does not look from your earlier pics that the trailer is supporting the transom well. Plus I saw where you have the back roller brackets higher than the rollers. Could scrap the hull alot.

If it were I, I would put Wood caprpeted bunks instead of thosse rollers.

I could be wrong.

I love tilt trailers. I have launched my 16 ft sea nymph 25 hp merc full of decoys off a seawall 4 ft down, and retrieved it off the wall. .02

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Coinman, I' ve seen the other pictures you've posted in the Lund section, boat on the trailer with tractor, and from what I can see from those pictures I don't see a problem with the setup at all. My Gator has bunks and I wish that I could find a tilt roller trailer for mine as I launch 90% at unimproved ramps that are also very shallow.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

:)thank you both for the heads-up on the trailer rollers-being a newbe to all this i do needs advice on a lot of this. I'm in the process of cleaning all the parts up on the trailer now-after i get the trailer back together, i'll reload the 74 on it and look closer to the rollers vs putting the carpeted bunks on-either way isn't a big problem- i got the treated 2x4s on hand and some reg burber carpet-don't know how long reg carpet lasts but there plenty in the attic-because i have never loaded or unloaded the boat off this trailer in the water, i really don't know how the rollers perform- i unloaded the boat in my shop by useing a electrical hoist and a block and tackle supported buy beams in the attic going across 4 truss's- very easy way to unload. here's some pics of the trailer parts THANKS again to the both of you! Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

:)Mi duckdown I was looking at some of my other pics of 74 lund on trailer-maybe you saw some of the pics that i had to boat pushed back on trailer prior to unloading it' i pushed it back a litle to look at the bottom in a different postion and just to see how heavy it felt--also to see how strong this 63 old man really is!! HA HA thanks for your input--later,

coinman, you will have to post back once you finish this project and relate your experience in using this setup! Again I think you will be pleasantly suprised at how easy that boat will launch and retrieve.
