Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

$1200.00 I really didn't know much about the LUND brand of boat, never owed a boat before. My dad worked on boat motors after he retired, but i was young and only cared about hot cars and girls. I was young and dumb, way to busy to pay attention. If i'd only know! What ya think about the price. It' a one owner ( saw the paper work) and real low hours, only on fresh water up north,a guess thats why the trailer fram is a little rusty, but its cleaning up real good! thanks for the comments MWSEAWARD --later

bonz_d I really believe you are right on-stripping the triler - just got back from the boating candy store- believe me it's the proverabout the kid in the candy shop -- got the new center rollors, cause the old ones had places on them that were'nt round anymore so i figured it be like a tire with flat spot-womp-womp. they were about $6.00 a pcs- i think it'll be a good thing when i start loading and unloading. I really thank you for all your help so far!! later

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

:)Well i got the small trailer stuff cleaned and primed, started sanding on the big stuff. the sun finally came out, so me and my helper (Trouble) the cat are doing good. later, and here's my new center rollers. you can see the indentions, i think they would have been useless with those flat spots in them.

I would say those rollers had seen better days! I used those black rollers when I replaced mine and now wish I had bought the Stoltz rollers instead. They much more durable.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Very nice! Brother-in-law once built something like that to rebuild a 1937 Chevy frame for a street rod. Coming along quite nicely too. What are you going to do for a paint scheme? When I did mine I used a tan for the frame that is pretty close to the same color as the inside and then offset it with dark red fenders.

Will still be waiting to hear of your 1st launch. Hope you're having fun.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

:)Well bonz_d it was scaffle i had on hand so i just tried it and it seems to work with trailer weight and all. As far as the paint schem goes, i was thinking about a simllar paint combo except a silver grey with red fender. I,m basicaly color blind and my wife said i'd be better off going with the basic grey and red pin stripping on the fenders.I guess i'll play it safe and go with her idea. But i sware if the fender were not welded to the frame, i'd try the red fenders! maybe next time- i getting anxiuos to take this thing to the water. pretty weather in arkansas right now. here's the primer coats:

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

:)Waiting for it to quit raining in arkansas to paint trailer frame.Started taking off letter and numbers on the boat.By the way i found out this is a 1985 Lund instead of a 1974. I jump the gun on that one, looking at the 6hp evinrude owners book, cause it is a 74 i just thought the boat was to--my bad-but its not a bad thing, the vboat is just 11 years newer than i though. I used a hairdryer and was real careful and the decals game off and i cleaned the glue off with some cleaner. I don't know if i will be able to use compond and get the old and covered paint to come closer to looking about the same:-( Here's some pics

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Coming along! Buffing compond may do the trick if you can remove some of the oxidation.

I was going to question you about the year of that Lund when I first read your posting. My Lund is a 1984, same model only mine has a side steering console. The reason being was because of the tan interior. I believe the 70's models used the blue/green color on the interior.

I will add that I love mine and for it's size it is very stable. I have no trouble standing up in it to fish.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

It's thursday' the sun just came out,i'm so ready to paint the trailer frame.Wife has gone to wally world to get the boat letters and numbers. Still need to get the tag,i guess i'm getting anxious to get the boat in the water and see how the motor runs on the boat, it did fine in the test tank after i installed a new water pump impeller. Just ready to get the show on the water:) By the way, i sure do like the later model ( LUND ) decals. I dont guess it would take away from my 1985 model, I guess it would just be a preference thing, no big deal- dont even know if i could find them or afford them at this point- thats something that can always be added later. :) by the way bonz_d she's getting the compound you mentioned, its sure worth a try- the paint is too good to paint over now and theres no telling what all the paint materials would cost nowadays, i have not painted a car for over 30 years, spraying the trailer will be a small test of my old skills! talk to ya later.( The arkansas traveler in the 85 lund ):)

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Coinman, if you go to Great Lakes Skipper.com you can find the Newer Style Decals. They have a couple different colors available. I know I had found another site that had decals also but unfortuneately I didn't save it. Dang!

Also don't know how it works in your neck o the woods but here in Wisconsin as long as the registration has been submitted and a copy of the form is with the boat it is legal to operate it w/o currant numbers and sticker.

Have fun painting!

Another place to watch would be ebay motors. I picked up a pair of NOS Lund Ldt. Edition Rapala Silver metalic with black blocking for $15.00 two years ago. They look just like the ones you just posted. Wish I could have gotten the Ltd. Rapala decals that were supposed to be with the set.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

hey bonz_d, i had a brain thing awhile ago and mentioned the decal cost to my wife and she had the same responce to the $80.00 price on the lund decals as i did.I will not repeat what she said(censorship and all) but she said why don't i ask my grandson that is going to graphic arts school to just make me some, silly me,i didnt realize he has made big and small decalls for his brothers car and for advertizeing the duck calls that he and his buddy made. I'll let ya know how it works out and send some pics. By the way i went to your lund restore page and really enjoyed checking it out. Our boats are almost twins. I,m just getting used to moving around in this forum, every day i see something new. And every body in this thing is so helpful,I might add, like yourself. thanks again!! :):)

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Paint turned out very nice, good job! When I painted mine I has to brush it on, turned out ok but not as nice as it would have if sprayed.

Now that the paints on are you now going to pinstripe it as you mentioned? Can visualize it now and I think a red pinstripe would really accent it well.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Yes sir, i think it needs just a little pizzaz, just a little. Going back to work next week, been off for 6 months, trying retirement ou, but i don't think i quite ready for it. That might make things go a little faster because i'll be going into town where i can buy some stuff for the project ( with gas being the price it is, ive been trying not to go to town much).Plus a little bit of money will not hurt either. My wife got me some flotation vest the other day. Like i said before, all this is new as far as a hobby goes, i did it alot with my folks when i was a kid, but not since. I'm looking forward to putting this little darlin in the water and putter around. I can see from your set up that most people go up in HP after awhile, but right now i just want to putter :) do you know if NAPA or other paint supplers would have the red thats on our lund boats, sice i got the tralier cleaned up , i thinking of repainting that red on the boat. thanks alot - talk to ya later :):)

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

Can't answer you as far as NAPA paint though if you can find an auto shop that mixes paint I'm sure you can find something close. From your posted pictures your paint looks very good.
I have a can of Rustolium Marine red that is pretty close from what I can tell. As for the engine a lot will depend on the waters that you are going to use it on. Small lakes/rivers your 6hp should be fine to move you around, otherwise as I suggested to keep an eye out for a 18-25hp and just keep your loads reasonable. I'm one of those that sometimes stays a bit too long and then needs to get off the water in a hurry.

Re: 74 lund and tilt trailer

:)bonz_d i got a few more questions a this point in my project. With boat loaded on trailer and hooked to my truck with the motor down, theres 13 inches from the bottom tip of the engine to the ground with every thing level. Do you drive down the road like this or do you tilt it up like ive seen other motors on boats going down the road? do you launch it up or down or does it just go by what ever the teran is at the boat ramp, i understand there could be a lot of common sence going into the whys and why nots. Just curious what youve done in the past. I still got to get tie down straps and several safety chains, but i'm getting closer. All and all the whole rig sits real good behind my truck. Its the first time i have had it hooked to the truck, since i brought it home with my farmall cub tractor. If you get a chance, please give me some advice on these issues, and i'm sure there will be some more as i get closer to launch. Thanks ever so much
