Thanks man, but the controller I know will be here in time, hell I could use the one I have if need be. I should need ten total, two gunwales, two fish boxes, one anchor locker, one over head elecro box, two bow strips and two interior strips.

Time will tell on the resin incased..

i know i shoulda been finalizing the rgb install but instead i broke out the buffer,
i chose the mothers 3 step process. i spent the evening making the red stripe on the one side red again:facepalm: for whatever reason i never ordered those film discs that chriscraft used i did look everywhere local with no succsess. so to the buffer i went,lol. actually it did a great job with step one compounding. i thought it was too heavily oxidized to save. sorry i didn't shoot any pics on that one, but i'll be sure to post the before and after on the other side

what does anyone suggest for the rubbing compound on my faded stripe? will any one do?
the three step will work for the rest of the boat but doesn't have enough grit to dig a lil deeper.

Hey there lil buggy... I used some 3m liquid compound. I'll get the exact name for you in the morning. It worked great and was rather easy to use. I tried some paste compound prior to the 3m and it felt like I was buffing forever, the liquid stuff made quick work of it. I had a blue stripe that was oxidized heavily and it brought back the glossy color to it.(not to mention the entire hull looked much better) I think I compounded twice and then marine polish and then wax. Its looked great for the past year and I'm going to do it again here sometime soon.
I've been seriously checking out the rgb lights you guys are using! They look sweet!

3m restore compound or 3m heavy duty compound. Or just wet sand with 800 1000,1200

Red and blue gelcoat oxidizes quicker than other colors. You really need to cut through all the oxidation and restore the color. The best way on that red imo is to wet sand. It is not hard and you will love the results. I would probably try some 1000 first, then 1200, and then 1500 if you really want a great finish, but you may need to start with 800 if it is heavily oxidized. If you have any wax on it, remove it with some acetone first. Try a small area of about 2 by 2 area and step back and look at the difference after wet sanding. Keep the paper wet, if it starts to not slide well over the surface, add water.

By the way, you should use a fiberglass/boat compound, wax etc, not car products. Mothers is not really a good brand imo, Mcquires make some good stuff though.

As far as good restore compounds/polishes and waxes, i like starbright w/ptef and woody's products is what I have been using the last couple years. The woody's products are really good and I think it has been the best wax at the water line, when I use it, I get no scum line for atleast a month and after that it is still easy to wash off for months. . this look like the right stuff? i was just trying to slow down the cheeseburgers from leaving my wallet. too bad they dont sell in a smaller pack. how many discs if you remember did you use on your hull?. i feel like i am all over the board on the red stripe issue. i guess i need to settle down a bit and get r done.

so to review Budd, use acetone first
best way would to use the discs than wax with woodys
or the alternative would be to use the 3m compound than use the woodys wax.

i like the sounds of how the woodys has done on your rig, and keepin it clean that long would be great

Hey man, you have missed some things and are getting confused.

I only used the disks on the bottom because I had to. You could simply go up to the auto store and buy some wet sand paper starting with 800 grit. I wet sand the side of my hull by hand before.

I did use the discs afterwards because I had them available from left overs on the bottom. The red is not that large of an area and really wont take you much time to wet sand by hand if thats what you want to do.

If you use the sanding film diiscs you will want to use 3m compound afterwards and then wax. I have not waxed my hull at all yet,, including underneath. It will all get waxed at the same time when I am done making messes. My hull is sanded and 3m compounded, thats it.

The Rhino film discs are awesome if you decide to go that way, and will save your arm muscles from fitigue. Use them on a Da sander. Not a rotary. Is your ordering the discs, I would just start with 800, then 1000, them 3m compound to polish. Then wax. Good luck, I promise you that red can look amazingly new.

i only have a few,,, bungs,, besides the stripe, the white is just powdered up some. so i guess i'll tre the 3m compound and if that dont cut it i'll go to the wet dry paper by hand.argg,, lol (back n forth, not circles right?) i'll hold off on the discs till i figure another reason to use them,,lol

I got the one side all shiny below the rubrail anyway that red stripe looks really good not all faded.
i started on the second sides red stripe and run outa daylight with 10feet to go. sorry i didn't get pics again i need 2 aa batteries,lol.
i kept after it even when the snow came. i thought we were done with that,,lol

i didn't find the 3m at advance so my impatient self bought meguires liquid restore and it is working great. my only complaint is it's not super agressive so it takes alot to get into the scrape marks however it made short work of the stripe

i hope to get something done after work tomorrow.

Sounds like your heading in the right direction. Is the compound doing the job by itsself? Thats great if it is. If it starts to oxidize this season again, wet sand it. Compounding can be done in circles just like wax, overlapping.

yes ,,, if you dont count the semi orbital buffer i am useing to apply it i got some black rub marks that it is s l o w l y taking away.
i may just hit those with the wet sand paper by hand. i'll post some pics of what i'm talkin about after lunch. thanks for the support.

i am lackin in the pic department lately .
although the results are awesome, i bet they'd be boring to look at anyway.
under the rubrail is done, i started above the rail tonight before the admiral called me in,,lol.lots of boat left to do. the buffer pad got all ripped up, however i bought one of those foam aplicators and put that on before the terrycloth and back at it.

i got some really good info from an inside source,,,lol,,,,
acetone is the shizzzznit,,, huge help before compounding, i tried to cheat without it and, no go. that stuff cuts the carp like nobodys business. pleased with that addition. thanks criscraft.

Acetone is a must have imo for any boater. But as far as detailing. It is good to start with a clean slate. Acetone is harmless to finished gelcoating. Acetone will pretty much strip any wax residual or really almost anything that is on thre gelcoat. Its used just as a prep and cleaner. It evaporates quikly and you can sand or compound or wax right after the acetone is evaporated. If you compound or wax or polish without clearing the surface first, the products won't do there best job because they are having to cut through other junk first.

sorry i couldn't get on here yesterday, the admirals claiming the weekend her birthday weekend.
last year wasn't so good she got real sick just before her bday, lost her transplanted kidney, and had a real ruff time of it. lots of hospital stays, we spent most of the warm months last year trying to get better and stay outa the hospital.
we gotta make up for it this year i'm very happy to have her home with me. i'll try to duck in between work and celebrating health.
tonite is movie night

as far as the acetone went. it didn't take everything off but ( could tell on the red stripe) but it did cut alot of carp, so while compounding the buffer didn't get bogged down as much. it certainly quickened up the task. and it did take alot of black rub marks from the old shorepower cord and also some rash marks clean off by itself. a must from now on for sure, i'll always have it on hand.
i realized by accident that it cleaned the plastic fittings for the blower, years of oxidation on them wiped clean away. not sure how healthy it is for plastic tho. after buffing the hull around the blower fitting i armoralled the plastic to seal in the "pretty"
i also used it on the outdrive before priming, i thought i had the drive clean till i wiped it down with the acetone, shish you would be suprised just how much work that stuff does. new to it this year and very happy to have it on board.

I'll add my 2 cents to using Acetone prior to compounding. I've even used some Acetone on the vinyl seats after washing them with soap and water to get some of the soap residue off before applying the protector.

The 3M polishing compound works great for me with the orbital buffer. I haven't tried the Woods product that CC talks about, but I will recommend this stuff http://www.hellerglanz.com/. The Cleaner/Wax works great for light oxidation and the Carnuba Cream wax goes on smooth and holds up better than anything I've used before. I use the Quick Gloss Spray during the season to maintain the shine after washing.

Great job on the lights!!! I kept looking for that Pumpkin Orange color that CC likes so much!

Use the acetone on your rub rails also, does a great job cleaning it up.

The orange color is hard to get good pics of, it is in his pics, just lighter.
