Re: 89 Force Lower Unit Cracked badly
The 1989 model 125HP Force motors have a non-through-hub exhaust, single piece driveshaft type A lower unit on them from the factory. They can be converted to run the newer two-piece lower units, but you have to be modification-savvy sometimes, depending on your midsection waterpump recess. Besides, those old lower units were as solid as they come.
Your options are all going to depend on your budget to get it fixed. If your budget is a couple hundred bucks, then E-Bay is the way to go. Just remember, a lot of these guys dump the milky junk, fill them with clean oil, and sell them with no warranty. You take it out and think everything is great with the world again until you find out your seals are blown and your going to have to dump more money into it. Then the mechanic calls you back and says there is rust in it and.....get the picture?
Don't spend $1500 on a lower unit for a 15 year old motor, but there is still quite a few of us out there that are rationally priced on rebuilt lowers.
