Re: 92 Johnson 150 ois 60 degree..compresion expectation after rebuild??

what comes around goes around..he has chosen his life..it is a miserable one..I have more peace and joy in one hour than he has probably had in the last year. I will survive with a smile on my face. thanks for all the help.

Darn it Sparkie, you're making me feel guilty for all I've been saying and thinking about that miserable SOB since I got ripped off by him. I suppose I was especially PO'd because I'd spent over a year rebuilding my Checkmate and had my engine sitting in the garage for 6 months waiting to go on. Once I finished rebuilding the boat I assumed I was ready to start having some fun, only to find out the engine had major issues (cooling, lower unit, carbs, ignition, etc. etc. etc.).

I would check this over good before running again as the rod bolts may not be torqued correctly since piston have been messed with....my $.02 is tear it down and do it right as this one has not....

I've been thinking the same thing about my "Frank Mathews Special", just kind of uneasy about what's inside considering the lack of care that went into the rest of it. I'm bound and determined to use it this season though, and maybe tear it apart next winter. Sparkie, if you do end up taking yours apart I'd sure be interested in hearing what you find.

I put the heads back on..compression is an even 90 on 2,4,6....1 is 100, 3 is 85, 5 is 95
that # 3 cylinder is concerning me. I am not sure why it has lost compression from first 2 test. I will run it for a little while, I know this could be risky, and Faz is probably right, but I just do not have a week or so to dedicate to this project...I may tear it down after Easter, I will have some free time then maybe.

Sparkie, You know what could happen if you don't. A rod thru the sid of the block is a hard one to fix.

I mean, if the guy replaced the one piston, how do you know it is right.

Also with looking at your numbers, how do you know that the rest of the system for that one pistion is right. DId he use the right flange sealant when mating the two halves together. To many unknowns for my liking. I would defanately be going all over that thing from top to bottom looking for what other "riggs" he has done. Between to be safe and sure than sorry and broken.

For the cost of a complete gasket set $100, the sealants you don't have around $30, the possible cost of flexhone $30, and a per set of rings $30, tube of die electric grease $10, total under $300. Piece of mind Priceless...............

Go for it, Looking forwards to the thread.

Well I forgot to post and looks like you covered it, lots of pics and posts! It helps us figure out what ours are supposed to look like.....

Please post here the link to your rebuild thread. That way they are linked. I'm having a hell of a time finding things that people talk about here. Too many areas to keep track off....

You have a link to Metrics thread????
