I have a 96 mercruiser 5.7lx 4 bl weber carb (non vortec) with bravo 3 in my 96 Chap. When it's cold the starter turns over the engine strong (not a battery issue), but the engine won't fire for about 5-6 secs. That is understandable when its cold, with the choke coming on and so forth. However, if I run the boat to operating temperature, shut it down for more than 20 mins, it will do the same thing, and take 5-6 secs before it fires.
That being said, if I were to bring the engine up to temperature, shut it down, then immediately start it, it starts right up instantly. Could this be a carb or fuel pump issue? maybe the float is set wrong in carb and fuel is draining back. Could the fuel be draining back to the tank from the fuel pump causing the fuel pump to have to pump fuel for those 4-5 secs before it starts?
