Alright so I need to vent. I am a younger boat owner and I have always taken the advice of (not older
)more experieced people in life. I just recently bought my first boat after spending a lot of time on the river with water rescue. You wouldn't beleive how much SH** I got for it! If I hear one more person say "Awe thats just a hole in the water to throw money into" or "Go broke, buy a boat" or "The best two days in a boat owners life is the day they buy it and the day they sell it" AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! The truth is what hobby now adays is cheap!? what hobby do you ever actually get back the money you put into it?!? When someone pays $1200 for a set of golf clubs are they really that much better than a $700 set of clubs? could you turn around and sell them for $1500?? NO! HOBBIES ARE EXPENSIVE!! and to be completely honest no hobby is a good economic descision. Thats not part of it. You spend money on the things you love because TO YOU its worth the money, not because you think you're going to be able to one day make money off of it!
When you spend money on restoring classic cars, or fishing equiptment, or golfing, or boating you can't think about it in terms of money. You think about it in terms of will I enjoy this enough to make it worth it. The only reason I work is to make money, the only reason I make money is to ENJOY IT!!! yes we need to save money to have a nest egg but whats the point of working everyday and not enjoying the fruits of your labor?!? Ok I think I'm better now.
On a side note it is funny that those same people that are giving me crap for buying a boat are the same people that say "so when are you taking me out?" Hmmmm
