I think boats are very practical and useful.

Agreed to the photo Evidence! the only clothing we're allowed to take off in public in KY is shoes....and well.... do teeth count????
The funny part is I do have a "significant other" and I think she enjoys it more than I do! When i talked to her about buying a boat he exact words were "well if it will make you stop talikng about it so much then please do it!!" She was kidding of course. I think i'll hang on to her! :)

Now I've been to Harmon Creek. A little more than shoes were taken off.... for a brief flash at least.

Re: A little Venting anyone?????!!?!?

Last weekend while we were fishing my wife said, you don;t knwo how lucky you are to have a wife who likes to go fishing. She's haklf right--she makes nme stop yard work or skip house work even miss church to go out in the boat. What she doesn't know is that if she didn't like it, I'd still be going.

Only a boater can understand why I put up with the aggravation and hard work for my varicose boats (i.e. broken vessels), just like only a duck hunter can understand why we get up in the cold dark miserable weather to go out in small boats and slog around in the muck all day.

There are those whose idea of recreation is sitting on a beach, or walking around on manicured grass whacking a white ball. Not me, but since I know they can't understand me, I don't fault them, but I avoid them! Bu8t overall, the sit-around folks aer a lot less interesting to hang out with than those of us who enjoy tackling problems and don't mind getting cut up and dirty doing it.

I totally agree with the OP. I'm in NO financial situation to own the boat I do, spend the kind of money I do on it, and the money it takes to fuel it. What else would I do in life though? Nothing. Outside of boating, I go to school and work. What's life without hobbies?

Over the years my hobbies have been skiing, shooting, RVing and boating. I consider myseif an expert at spending money foolishly, but enjoyed every minute of it. Had a lot of people tell me I was wasting money, but I was having too much fun to stop and listen.

Man I feel you! I just say: well what kind of crap do you waste your money on? If they ever repeat - I disown. Don't try and seperate me from my stuff. Oh yea, and if they say that I should save it, I tell them I don't plan on living forever. People who have the audacity to tell another man how to spend his money are suspect - they are not your friends. Don't let it bug you. If it does, vent some more -we'll be here for you. Sell my boat; crazy talk!

My F250, my Mustang, the Silverton, the two Jet Skis, the pool, the hot tub, the golf clubs... The amount of stuff I have that is a WASTE of money is amazing. With that said I own them all for enjoyment and can say that without it, life would be boring!

Re: A little Venting anyone?????!!?!?

Y'all even wear shoes in Kentucky?

:D

Of coarse not because we all have boats!!!:D Might see a set of flip flop every now and again. :0

Op, you sound like your young if I'm not mistaken, pretty damn young. Thats not a bad thing. I'm just saying, as you get older, you care less and less what people think about you or what you have or don't.

If the boat is what you want to spend money on and your doing it for yourself, then everything is great. If your spending money to impress other people go get some golf clubs. lol By the way, the golf clubs are the cheap part, the memberships are the expensive part.

There will always be someone out there that thinks there better than you for many different reasons. The thing is, how does that effect you? It shouldn't effect you at all including getting upset over what they say.

Boating and being on the water pumps through my veins, and no matter what anyone says, it will always be in my blood. If you enjoy it, who cares what anyone else thinks. Happy boating.

Re: A little Venting anyone?????!!?!?

Agreed! I am young (24) and I love every second I spend on the water. As one person said it gives me a reason to get up and go to work. If I didn't spend money then whats the point of making it right? Now I have money saved up for the important stuff (beer, fuel, tackle and parts) but when I look back on life when I'm older I won't remember how much money I had in the bank, I'll remember all the good times I had spending it!

By the way I think I saw a comment about Harmon Cove in here and couldn't help but smile. I was on a house boat down there for July 4th last year for a bachelor party..... WOW!! I do think they were taking that stuff off, Some of them never put it on it the first place!!

I wish I could/would have gotten a boat at 24. I'm 50, just got my boat this spring and Love it! I've heard all the bs too. In one ear and out the other. Good Boating young man.

Re: A little Venting anyone?????!!?!?

I'm 74 years old and I long ago quit worrying about what other people think. Nor do I try to defend what I do or justify my actions to anyone else. I did it, I'm happy with it, and I don't care what anyone else thinks about it, whatever it is. There is one exception to that rule, of course - She who must be obeyed, my wife.

Don't misunderstand, I'm always happy to share my good news with others. I just don't put up with the hyper critical remarks anymore or try to convince anyone else that my latest action or acquisition was the result of a good and wise choice.

I've got a good response to those who make remarks such as the ones you cite. And, that is to **** my head just a little to one side. Look the person straight in the eye and say "Now that's an interesting remark, why do you say that?" Ninety nine times out of a hundred they will find themselves stumbling around verbally, trying to come up with an answer.

I'm also a private kind of person and have a similar response to those who ask what I consider inappropriate personal questions: "That's an interesting question. Why do you want to know?" or even "why in the world would you want to know that?" Shuts 'em up every time.

I was going to ask if it even mattered if Vermont had no nudity laws. Does anyone in Vermont ever get naked, and are they worth seeing naked?

There are a couple boats that raft up in the cove I moor in a couple times a month. I give them their space, but it appears to be 2-3 nudist couples. As for looks... I've seen worse, I've seen better. The better looking ones are the ones I have on my boat. Ha!

And really, to answer your question about whether anyone gets naked. Do a google search for Burlington VT Naked Bike Ride. You'll get your answer....

Agreed Bubba. And when I keep getting ribbed, I show them the pictures of the girls that have hung out on the boat with me.

Did I mention there are no nudity laws in Vermont?

I get the same crap about my snowmobiles. They can all kiss my $#@. Did I mention I'm moving to Vermont????

The only trouble is that everything they are telling you is TRUE! And they forgot B.O.A.T.---Bust Out Another Thousand LOL . But on the other hand, it is cheaper than drinking or women, and maybe even smoking. And certainly less aggravation than a woman--As any man with a significant other will tell you.

Yet, I wouldn't give up my six (or is it seven?) boats and one woman. See: That's where boats are better than women--It is WAY easier to keep six of them. Take my word on that!

at least your boat will never divorce you, now that is a expensive hobby............
and since i have MBS, one does not get mad when i take out the "other" one........
and your boat never needs to go to college............

Best
Of
All
Times,

babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

P.S. i am joking around............

and i never wear shoes in the boat, as well...............

Ignore all the naysayers, and treasure your time on the water, I just sold one of my boats. It was definately NOT one of the happiest days of my life.
