Can you imagine the razzing people take that live in these towns when they travel. I knew a security guard named **** Colepecker. First time I called his office he answered "Colepecker" And I blurted out "What pecker?"<br />Always wondered why the parents named him "****"<br />Must have been a fierce labor, or costly pregnancy. :p :p

Re: A strange name indeed!!

GG, the town that Punxsy Phil lives in is Punxytawny Sp is incorrect, that is why we just call it Punxsy). Gobblers Knob is just a little knoll right outside of town, where every Groundhog Day they pull the poor beast out of his cage and make him squint into the sun. All are dressed in Tuxedos, it is really a big deal, and a "Must Attend" event at least once in your life - then once will probably be enough!

I just googled Gobbler's Knob, they are everywhere!! Including KY and VA.<br /><br />I'll pass on the groundhogs day in PA for now Speck, unless I can live the same day over and over again with Andie McDowell like Bill Murray did. It wouldn't take me nearly as long as it took him ;)

Acutally it's Crested Butte Colorado. my favorite is Musquito colorado

The name 'Mosquito' comes from the city that used to between Park City and the London Mine (the first set of ruins you'll see along the way). It seems that no one could decide on a name for that city, but during a meeting someone noticed a mosquito squashed between the pages of one of the city record books. This inspired the people to name it after the mosquito (no one knew how to spell it, so they took their best guess and named it Musquito). Nothing is left of the town of Musquito.

Toad Suck, Arkansas - Not sure that it still exists.

Conception Junction, Missouri - Home to The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Yes, a convent. I actually spent a night there, but that's another story.

Climax Springs, Missouri

Knob Lick, Missouri

Peculiar, Missouri

Blue Eye, Missouri and Arkansas as it sits on the border.

About three miles from here is a town called Knockemstiff. There is a bar from its earlier days that was known for their fights that always occurred at the first of the month..
