Added another hard drive question

I just added a 60g hard drive to my computer.
It will only be used for video games.
So, before I do something I should not do, let me ask a question.
Can I move my saved video game files from the one hard drive to the one I just installed? Or do I have to just start the games over, on the new hard drive?
Thanks for any help.

click "my computer", and click the new drive, minimize it(the 2 overlapping squares at upper right). Go back and click "my computer" again, and click old drive, then drag and drop(r click, move here) to new. Has the new drive been formatted yet> And partitioned if you want that?

Re: Added another hard drive question

Thanks IC
I got the hard drive from a friend at work.
I do not know how to format it/and or partition it.
Unless I had written instructions, in front of me, I won't try to do those things.

Not sure what type of games you are talking about but if these games require entries in the registry to work properly, dragging and dropping will not work. You will want to uninstall and reinstall for the program to know where all of its files are.

On the "new" drive there is little plastic jumper. Make sure it is not on Master. Set it to Slave or CS (cable select)

Then do as IC said.
Once in disk management, you should see the "new" drive. It will have a drive letter like "E". Right click that drive and select Format.
Once formatted, reinstall your games to that drive, then copy and paste the games folder from the C drive to the new drive and overwrite the files that were installed when you reinstalled the game on the "new" drive

So, if it says the drive is "healthy: active", do I still have to format it?

As for the games(which include: 3 Call of Duty games, Tiger Woods 06 for example). I'm not too concerned with the saved files. I am just going to start them over and save them on my new Ghost Drive.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, you need to clean the drive so you can over-write on his old files that are on it.

If windows sees the drive and it has been formatted, it isn't absolutely necessary to format it again. I would do it anyway though just to start off with a clean slate in case there are any files infected with viruses on there.

Re: Added another hard drive question

I never had the time to format it yet. I was going to, honest.

Anyways, this morning when I turned my computer on, it stayed a dos mode and said something about a disk read error. I don't have no disk for this computer!
So I re-booted the computer and it started no problem, but then it made this clicking noise every 1/2 second or so.
I re-started the computer again and it did the same thing, made that clicking noise.
So I figured that the only thing I did to the computer recently was added the other hard drive. So I took the hard drive out and re-started the computer and it is running fine now. I re-started the computer again, just to make sure it was ok, and it is.

That clicking noise....is that indicating to me that the hard drive is no good ( I know that might be a stupid question, because I would tend to say yes, the hard drive is no good because of the clicking noise). Any other opinions?
What if it only made that noise because I never formatted it? Is that possible?

Thanks,
B.C.
