So I have had an issue with getting some bad gas and added an inline fuel filter. Now the motor will only run for a minute then dies after loosing prime. Did I install to big of a fuel filter for the small fuel pump on these motors

That would probably be hard to answer without knowing what filter you put on it, but I really don't know enough about the filters to be sure. My guess would be that you probably just have a bad connection and are drawing air into the system though. Are you sure your connections are good?

Everything worked great until I put the filter in. I just picked one up from walmart. Will probably hit the boat store tomorrow.

If its the one with the different nipples that screw into the ends of the filter, did you put any teflon tape on the threads?

I'd guess that the pressure drop across the filter may be too large for the
vacuum these small fuel pumps can generate, so the fuel pump is starving
for fuel.

Did you put it in the inlet line TO the fuel pump or behind it? Fuel pumps have a better push than a suction effect.

Don't think the filter could be too big. I run my 4 hp kicker on the same big Racor that I run my 35 hp on. I think it's rated for 25 gal per hour. It may actually be too small but most likely a connection is sucking air like others have said.
