I have noticed in the papers AND in the stores that there is NO ammunition available for pistols and such. Not that it affects me because I mainly shoot shotguns and stuff. But I'm reading in the paper, and talking in person to guns store owners and hardware store folks and they're saying that people are coming in and buying whole cases of ammo. I know part of it is the fear of the tax on ammo that's possibly going to be imposed, but why are people buying cases and such of ammo that is kind of expensive rather than target loads? Does someone know something I don't???

You know, I've heard the same thing! Saddly, things are not right in our country these days. I was driving home from work the other day and I seen something written on a rail car that concerned me. It said, EDIT

I went to the Gunshow today in Tampa. The vendor turnout was poor, and the Show wasn't as packed as it had been in the past. But the Ammo table looked like the NY Stock exchange. People were circled around it on cell phones taking orders for Ammo.

Crazy! But I did buy 2 more AR15 lower recievers. You never know when Tony's going to act up.... ;)

It beats the hell out of me as to why some folks allow paranoia to get the better of them.:(

A cheap box of "bulk" 22LR used to sell for $9.99 for a box containg 500 rounds of the cheap stuff..... today if you can find it..... $23-$27 for the same box.

40 S&W, .380, 9MM, 45 ACP all going for a dollar a round or higher

Primers are taking the same high price path too.

That is so true. I dont understand it either. The .22's use to be so cheap its sick to pay the current prices.

It must be a local problem. In Rochester,NY the Walmarts have ammo coming out of their ears and so does Gander Mountain.
The only reason that I can think of a thing like this happening is that the "Secret Sons of the Confederacy" are planning another try at secession and they are stocking up on ammo for their artillery.

there is none in pa at all. you can't even buy reloading equipment, bullets, or anything. I did get lucky and found primers and powder locally and had to order bullets. IDK what is going on...

Supply and demand.
Fortunately, I reload, and have a stash of lead.

I visited Cabelas a few weeks ago and they were stocked too however..... a quick look at the prices tells the story.

Here is a link to a story in my local paper today http://www.rutlandherald.com/article/20090419/NEWS04/904190299

Hmmmm Rochester is only 5-6 hours away ...... almost worth the road trip. ;)

Re: Ammunition not available!

yeah, the problem around the local stores here isn't stock, it's price... Many rounds are 5 or 6 times the amount they were just a few months ago...

The online retailers are all out of stock now mostly because raising local prices made everyone go online...

There's an online place I order from all the time... The last time I placed an order (2000 rnds of 5.56 NATO and 1000 rnds of 9mm Lugar) there was an expected delay of 2+ weeks for processing. They called about 4 days after I placed the order and asked if I still wanted it. They were calling and verifying before shipping since it was taking so long. I told them that it had only been 4 days and was a lot shorter delay than I thought it would be.

The guy says, "Yeah, these small orders we try to process and get out the door quickly"

Small order?!? 3000 rnds is a small order?

He then proceeds to tell me that the BULK of the orders they are getting these days are for in excess of 100,000rnds... Some as many as 300,000 or 400,000!!!

WTF?!? When is the zombie attack coming????

here in pa I can't even find any hangun ammo. If someplace gets it you are only allowed 2 boxes per person per day.

The closer the live to a highway or a cemetary .... the earlier the attack!

If you google it...... you really can perform zombie defense with other items....... maybe you need re-training ;)

I wonder if it has to do with gun control? those in power can't really stop you from haveing a gun but they can make it VERY expensive for ammo, thus gun control in a end run tacktic

I was thinking about that, too. Also, a possible zombie attack that I may not have been informed about.:p

I'm figuring it's just paranoia but am hoping whatever it is, it ends quickly. Either way, I'm thinking that the folks at the top are seeing that people ARE interested in owning guns and ammo and are wanting to keep their jobs and hopefully not pull any stunts in Washington with gun control.

I had no idea that even .22 bullets are high now. I like to shoot my .22 pistols and that's going to hit me hard.:(

It definitely isn't a local thing!

Re: Ammunition not available!

When things get real bad and guns/ammo is gone, there will be other ways to power projectiles down a barrel or a piece of pipe. A bud and me shoved a double A battery in a hose hooked to a CO2 tank. Had it aimed at a full quart of latex paint. At 50', that battery hit the can sideways and went through the can. I would think that if it had hit someone, it could have caused a fatal injury. Just think, a CO2 tank, a hose, and a battery. 3 things that can cause some serious damage that can be easily had.....

Something like that, you would be using it to defend your homestead and not out looking for trouble. People with good knowledge of adaption can usually find an alternative means is pretty much what I'm trying to point out.
