I just purchased an anchor pulley for the bow anchor on my 14' fishin' boat. Wasn't looking for anything fancy, just a pulley to pull the bow anchor up and let down from the back of the boat. I saw this (picture below) at Cabela's that had the product description; "The Anchor Pulley is a lock and release pulley that sets or releases anchor without the need for leaving your seat." Well, I got it last week and when I looked at it I wondered how releasing the anchor is going to work. Maybe by keeping tension on the rope, the spring loaded locking mechanism behind the roller would allow the rope to pass through it until the anchor hit bottom and the tension on the rope would slacken and the lock would move forward and lock the rope.
I put it on the boat today and tried it. It sure lets you raise the anchor and lock it, but there is no way I can see that you can release it without going up to the unit and physically release the rope lock with your hand. I have read 11 reviews on the product page at Cabelas and everyone said it worked fine. I don't get it.
Has anyone used this? Or am I just nuts.
