Actually, the guys want to know when she's going to show up with the GTO. They've been asking for a couple years. She knows the answer. LOL Usually started when I would pick her up from school.

Do not teach your child to drive. Let professional Driving Instructors do that. I did that with my three girls. . .no problems. :)

Did the same as above for my two kids. Let the professional take care of it, less stress and headache for you and me. And now they are driving all over the country and check in with us once in a while. Time to let them fly!!!

Re: And it starts.............

I know that feeling all to well. I raised three daughters. It wasn't to bad until the youngest wanted to use my truck on weekends. What made that bad was I had a 600 hp motor under the hood. I took her out to a big open parking lot and let her floor it a few times to get the feel of it, knowing full well it was going to happen any way so she may as well learn under controlled conditions. She did just fine.

So my oldest 3 years ago, ready for first day of college (full academic scholarship for first 3 years), I ask her what she needs for college, she politely tells me one word...."Sugar",

My heart stopped, I mean seriously, I was having a Cardiac situation, shortness of breath pain all over spinning in my head weakness of my knees....

My wife seeing that I was having an issue told her to let us think about it for a couple days.

So the next day I spent taking the Injectors, big Turbo and Chip out of Sugar, my 2000 Ford F350 7.3L Powerstroke that I raced on weekends, ran in the low 13's. Luckily I saved all the stock parts so she could go back to almost normal with the exception of the exhaust.

Sugar now has 340,000 miles on her, I get her back after this next year when my daughter moves on to Grad School in the South(Not sure where yet she has been invited to NC State and UK) and we don't want her putting that much mileage on Sugar.

I have three Daughters, taught them all how to drive but a Professional driving instructor is a requirement.

Good Luck MUSKY!!

How many more years? All of them if you do it right! My daughter just started on her Masters in geology. I get a text every night when she gets home to her apartment. :)

Your a good dad, Lipp! Givin' up Sugar and all for a while! Yeah, she had training with a certified instructor. She had to go for X amount of hours. I think that is pretty much standard anymore. Heck, when I went thru training, our schools gym/history teacher gave the instruction. I'm sure he hated every second of it. That was it except for dad taking me out..... How times have changed for the better.

Yeah Woodnaught, I'm one of those dads that want to keep my daughter around as long as I can. She's my bud! I'm not one of those guys that can't wait until she's 18 so she can go off and do her own thing. If that's what she chooses, then fine. But, she can stay here as long as she likes, within reason....lol.

Glad to hear you still have a close relationship with your daughter. That's awesome!

Tonite the big debate is whether we let her drive to school again tomorrow... lol

Leave it open ended on a daily basis. Keeps 'em off balance, and gives you the upper hand (insert maniacal "dad" laugh here).

Glad the day went well for y'all. It's good to read all these posts about good relationship with kids ... I think they're getting rare.
