Re: Another senseless shooting

I was forbidden to be near or touch a gun when I was a kid. I met a kid who had hunted, shot trap and skeet, and owned guns his whole life when I was 13. There was a little .22 survival rifle that he kept in his room on the wall. We were cutting school or somethin' and for some reason he wasn't at his house, but a friend and I were. No adults. We took the .22 out to the backyard and I was going to fire it right there in the neighborhood. Just before I pulled the trigger, I chickened out and let the gun barrel drop and held it only with the trigger hand. The gun went off as it rotated downward and shot into the concrete we were standing on. Missed my foot by 1/2 inch and splattered the other kid and me with little fragments of concrete etc. The entire reason that happened was my curiosity combined with my ignorance.

My three boys know how to shoot, they will be tempted sometime and I want them to know how to safely handle a gun wherever they may be exposed to one.

Re: Another senseless shooting

Ill relate a very tragic thing that happened in my neighborhood. Graphic, dont read if you are squirmish!!!!

There were twins down the road, they were the worst kids with any type of gun, be it a BB gun or anything that I ever knew. Im convinced that there dad never spent one second with them teaching them anything. Anyway, one Christmas, when they were about 15, they both got shotguns for presents. 12 Ga. Pumps. Now that right there is a no brainer, as they had no need for them in the first place. The story I got was that they were in there bedroon jacking shells out of them for fun. (Unsupervised), ( I dont think that the father knew anything about them either), The one brother asked to see the other brothers gun and when he handed it to him, he dropped it. When the gun hit the floor, it went off, hitting the one brother right under the chin. The damage was so extensive, that they had to uthenize him. IMHO, this would have never happened if they would have been taught something about guns. The marriage ended in a devorce and I never heard from any of them again.
